I'm totally down for providing a description of the intended piece that I commissioned. Hold on to yer butts, this is where things get complicated.
This here takes place at the Wedding in Kadia, where Corvinus finally wed his wife after a series of tumultuous wars and a struggle to attain power in his territory.
In the armor is Deiter, Prince of Kadia. Under the suggestion and direction of his father, Corvinus, he represents his country in the attempt to merge territories with that of neighboring empire Umbra, by the prospect of marriage to its Ambassador. He is currently trying to woo her, but knows there may be more than meets the eye, as her investments appear to be elsewhere...
Distracted from said wooing is the lady in the black dress, Rou, a former thief who's been on the up-and-up by using seduction to place herself in precarious relationships beside men of power in the hopes of gaining it for herself. Often emotionally invested over time, she became so when she fell in love with the Emperor of Umbra, but was ultimately rejected for someone of higher stature, made all the worse by it being a woman she absolutely hates and is incredibly jealous of.
Exchanging looks with Rou is the gentleman in the black suit, Emperor Rafael of Umbra. Despite his feelings for Rou, he knew he needed a match that would secure his reign and expand his empire. Sacrificing a passionate love affair with Rou, he held onto the naive notion that one day the Queen of Orisia (an island nation neighboring Umbra) would grow to love him as he did her... but he was sorely mistaken.
Somber as she is forced to attend is the lady in the white dress, Queen Gabriela of Orisia, who would rather be anywhere other than in the public eye with her new husband. While his advances are strong, Gabriela is often a self-styled martyr by doing what she thinks is best for her country, however her heart has been stolen just as she has stolen Rafael's-- by a particular Devil, who ages ago had kidnapped her, and is in no short amount of denial of her Stockholm Syndrome.
In the back is Lord Roen: resident Devil, party-crasher, and professional brooder. Roen openly pines for Gabriela, who won't leave Rafael only because she claims to despise Roen more, and is responsible for Rou's vehement abhorrence of Gabriela for being the first to scorn her in pursuit of the island Queen. Roen came to the Wedding in order to give a gift to the bride and groom, but the gift had actually been meant for Gabriela, in the hopes she would eventually reach out to him again and find the gesture romantic. She didn't.
How's that for a love triangle?
I really wanted Miki to capture something in that showed the not-yet-forgotten attraction between Rou and Rafael, but showed the inevitable defeatism in the scope of their complicated politics.
Moral of the story: Power, in the most painful way, trumps love. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.

My apology for the late response, I've been very occupied with work as of late. My first intention was to ask for only the characters' names & general relationship but thank you very much taking your time to offer me a very detail description of their relations and how the Love Triangle came to such a point.
You're probably right: Power, in the most painful way, trumps Love, as we've already seen in novels, movies and even experienced it in life. The world, as we know, often seethes with hypocrisy. Though we say we prefer love over power, the way we behave in the political corner of our lives testifies all too often to the contrary. The couples involved will perhaps never experience a fulfilling and happy relationship as a strong element of reciprocity and mutuality is seriously lacking, not to mention the many secrets that prevent true connection and intimacy to occur in a relationship.
Thank you again for sharing the story behind. It helps add more depth to the picture, and I prefer depth to just cuteness or fancy. Miki definitely helped you capture the moment. Thanks for supporting her.
