Transhumanism describes a scientific-philosophical idea of a posthumanistic society, where the borders of human devolopment (age, dementia etc) are solved by scientific aproaches. Cybernetic implants as well as cryostasis or "minduploading" aren't just things to read in Sci-Fi-Books, they are actually thought of and - also very important - evaluated by their impact on society. There are some Universities dedicated to transhumanistic research and a few books have also be written on the topic.

The transhumansic idea also recieves some critic, as some people think it promises things that'll never happen, and thus looks more like a religion with an undefined salvation-ideal.

As I already said is transhumanism often topic of films, video games or books. Known examples are the "Mass-Effect-Trilogy" or the game-series "Deus Ex", which also depict the problems of transhumanistic development (If a AI is selfaware, can learn and judge, is it just a AI, or already a full human?).
