taken at an intersection near my house. I know it looks like the contrast was altered, but I assure you it wasn't. I don't really like the way it looks, but it's hard for me to not post this one.Related content

just realized this is a little less than a mile from my house. what night was this taken? and what time.. i slept through one storm and i dont remember there being lightning this close..

how do you keep the lights from washing out the lightning

It depends, but it's always one of the 3 primary adjustments. Iso, aperture, or shutter speed.
for example, the above photo was 8 sec, f5.6, and iso 100. So the combination of fairly short exposure and low chip sensitivity did the trick.

i actually love the contrast, it makes the street pop, but still the focus remains on the lighting.
