Description
... Jonathan gasped when the shorter man suddenly grasped his sleeve and leaned against him.Heavy sobs shook Jervis's body, and he cried, cried with all the loss and agony of a whole world breaking down.
Even the fearsome Scarecrow could not help but pity the poor and now so fragile being which clung to him with all its power. He simply stood still and put a hand on the Hatter's shoulder, allowing him to share his sorrow... [link]
Aww, doesn't he look sad?

Well, that, and to my knowledge, Aquaman has been derailed as a character, has been considered a joke for years, and only recently has been made interesting again.
I agree. Comics (and graphic novels) have more potential than people give them credit for. Ever read Watchmen? It is on the list of the Top 100 Influential Novels, and for good reason.
And even Mickey Mouse has depth. The Epic Mickey game that came out recently was to go back into Mickey's darker trickster personality instead of the friendly everyman he has been for the last few decades.

I never actually read Watchmen, although I at least skimmed through the pages when I saw it in a book store. I watched the movie instead - despite being quite violent, it certainly had a lot of depth.
Yes, I heard of this game. I thought about playing it especially because it was said to be darker, but unfortunately, I don't have a Wii XD
Perhaps Mickey Mouse was not the best example then

This...has to be one of the most creepily cute things I have ever seen (also, Year One costume? Loooooooooooove. <3).
Jervis looks a little weird to me, but beyond that, beautiful work.
I think I need to favorite this.

Hehe, thanks
Sounds as if Year One Crane is your favourite? He has the most creative costume in my opinion, that's for sure!
Could you please tell me what it is that makes Jervis look so strange? I want to improve my humans and try to avoid the mistake next time.
Also thank you for the faves!

I think a browse through my DA gallery makes it obvious enough that I prefer Year One Crane (though runner-ups include the first season Animated series, Blackest Night, and Long Halloween). I love that his costume is awesome, yet practical, and that he is pretty much a badass in that comic.
...The glasses help too. >> [/fangirl]
It is the angle of the face that bothers me, I think. Just...looks weird to me. Also, the eyes. I think they are supposed to be tears, but it takes a moment for my brain to process that. I think different shading might help in future works.
I also noticed that Crane's ear is a bit small. He -was- based off of Ichabod Crane, and has rather large ears.

That's true All Cranes you metioned are awesome. My personal fave as regards look is the version from BTAS (season one, like you said, but with a slightly different mask), followed by Long Halloween and then Year One. Blackest Night looks really good to me, but I don't know the story behind it yet.
I already feared that the heads were too big XD
Yeah, I thought it could be something like that. I had to adjust the eyes a few times, but it just looked wronger and wronger. Then the lines blurred slightly when I painted on top of them with the wet ink - perhaps I should not have used the printed lines XD Okay, thank you, I'll keep this in mind for the next time.

I have three words to convince you to locate and read Blackest Night: Yellow Lantern Scarecrow. As for the story...it is basically a zombie apocalypse. And if those three words I mentioned did not convince you yet, then these three probably will: Crane fights zombies (well...Black Lanterns, but they are -technically- zombies...).
The heads look fine to me, but I can see why you would think they look big. Reality is unrealistic, and proportionally, they are fine. You also have to factor in that Jervis is hiding a lot of Jonathan's body (which makes it look smaller), and that Jervis himself is at an angle, and his head is more forward than the rest of his body.

Wow, really? It sounds promising- you definitely convinced me
True, reality looks weird sometimes.
Comic or Manga characters tend to be taller or thinner than real humans.
That's probably it. I'm still unsure how broad to make the shoulders when drawing persons.

Yay! Also, prepare to REALLY hate Lex Luthor. XP
Basic human anatomy: for most people, the shoulders are about three heads wide (imagine another head on either side of your head, and that is about correct shoulder length).
A lot of the human body has nice "measurements" like that. For example, elbows normally align at the waist, and your arms are about two heads long without the hands.

millenium-night In reply to VNightmare [2011-01-16 10:23:53 +0000 UTC]
Okay >:3 *gets raedy to attack Luthor with a broomstick*
Now I'm confused XD There are so many comics about different corpses, which one should I read to get as much Scarecrow as possible? (and to understand the story)
I've heard some of these before, such as 'the nose is about as long as the eye is wide' (the one with the arm length is new to me, though). These guidelines are really helpful - it's just that it sometimes looks so wrong on the paper

I lover Hatter's expression, it's so contorted and heartbreaking. In order to not feel sorry for him, I have to remind myself exactly what the little creep is. But, oh, poor Jerv. I can't help it. Who cares if you are a rapist. lol
π: 0 β©: 1
millenium-night In reply to MorianBloodmoon [2011-01-04 22:01:00 +0000 UTC]
No no no Jervis is no rapist >< Lol, at least not in this picture. Imagine him to be the animated Jervis, so lonely and gentleman-like... and attacking people with an axe...- oh well, perhaps he's not that much of a gentleman XD
Anyways, I'm glad that it conveys the emotion so well
π: 0 β©: 1
MorianBloodmoon In reply to millenium-night [2011-01-04 22:05:07 +0000 UTC]
Even in the animated series...think about it. He used mind control to kidnap a young woman. I dunno about that, something just don't set right with me on that. DX
In the cartoon, though, he's extremely selfish!!!! And in one episode, he said he's kill Alice before leaving her alone. Nothing says romance like a stalking and a killing, right? lol
π: 0 β©: 1
millenium-night In reply to MorianBloodmoon [2011-01-04 22:29:37 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, you're right. It's been a while since I've watched this episode last. Actually, the topics approached in this and other episodes are not really suitable for the small children who might be among the watchers of the series.
Then again, after a good treatment in a mental institution (which perhaps shouldn't be Arkham due to all the corruption and the other rogues), he might have a chance of rehabilitation. He doesn't seem as hopeless to me as, say, the Joker.
π: 0 β©: 1
MorianBloodmoon In reply to millenium-night [2011-01-04 22:49:23 +0000 UTC]
I dunno about him being "fixed". He seems way to far gone in Wonderland. From what I can understand of Jervis is that he hates reality and fears it. he doesn't want to leave Wonderland, it's his "protection". Though, often times, when he's too deep in the fantasy world he'll do things that are practically monstrous and insane. he can either be a very happy, childish man or a homicidal maniac.
To me, he's a lost cause. But most of the Rogues are. Is he more extreme than the Joker? No. though, no one is. The Joker is his own brand of insanity.

millenium-night In reply to MorianBloodmoon [2011-01-06 12:12:30 +0000 UTC]
It depends on the version of Jervis, I'd say. The animated one might have a chance, while the one who teamed up with the Secret Six might probably have none. No matter which version, though, I guess nobody would actually like to meet him in person.
Well, at least the Riddler is a good guy now. But from what I've seen/read of him, he didn't seem to be that crazy in the first place, rather narcissistic and obsessed with proving his genius to anyone at any time. His methods were quite drastic sometimes, though.

MorianBloodmoon In reply to millenium-night [2011-01-06 19:08:47 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, only the Riddler reformed. Now he's a freelance detective!
But the others...no chance.
