Description
M'kay, so I said I was gonna get it done and I am on my way! This, on my posted list is April, and I get to go and cross it off now!Um, this was sketched sometime during the year of 2010...yeah, I know. ( - _ - ; )
I will have you know that I made several attempts at putting color to these lines. The first two were deemed unsatisfactory, and the last was foiled by a small naughty angelic being and a black colored pencil. Being as I was itching to color with my newly arrived markers, I pulled out this sketch and went to work. This was done at various sitting times over the course of a week and a half.
Copics are fun! Thanks for looking!

I think this is beautiful! I love the colors used, but I am a fan of purple. The red really stands out, and helps add to the asian feel. I love how the hair is done. The needles looking like real needles adds a feel of yarn and whimsy. I love how the pattern in the ribbon in her hair is continued down in her dress. The shading and highlights are done quite well also! Her face is beautiful. I love those eyes. I also very much enjoy the background. I love how it looks fuzzy, so that it adds to the piece instead of detracts.

First, thank you so much for taking the time to write a critique for this! I really appreciate it, truly! Second, it does me good to hear that I have accomplished some level of success in what I was aspiring to here. This piece was stretching in some ways because of my lack of experience with my chosen medium. I really was learning as I went and I had my doubts (a lot of which were focused on the background). Thank you again! Your words really give me the encouragement to keep moving forward.

Well, the best thing is to keep going! I know that I don't feel like I am at the level I want to be with colored pencils, but each work I do is better than the last. And I gotta admit, as much as I loved the whole work of art here, the background is what drew me in!!!!!
And yes! Please keep going!

I shall! It's funny that the background drew you in. It was the thing I was the most insecure about. I'll give myself some more credit next time...I really am my worst critic.
Thanks again!

Isn't there a quote about us being our own worst critic? And I have been there. I recently did I drawing I did not like, but my husband and son loved. So, you never know! Art is in the eye of the beholder, after all.
