Acrylic on canvas, 16x20 inches, I think.This painting took a lot of technical improvement on my part, and even though there are still a lot of areas I'd like to correctly - it's as finished as I can ever make it... it's the first work of mine that I probably won't be able to see again - I'm leaving it in Russia as a gift to my grandparents.
Woking on this piece span over this Fall 2008, half an hour here, an hour there, and what began as a piece to portray a zodiac sign turned into a sort of a self portrait - although I am neither male, nor aspiring to look japanese.
Also, a big thank you to all my watchers and others for over 3000 pageviews - I've done close to nothing since the summer, and still you proved attentive.
EDIT: Critique requested - I'm not going to be able to work on this piece any further, but any criticism and/or suggestions are still welcome to help me improve in the future

This looks like a normal guy.
I mean, he has horns and stuff, but it doesn't seem abnormal or something like that, you did it in a way I don't find it peculiar. Great.

i think this is my favorite work of yours. i love the sweet and warm colors. in the description it says that it's acrylic on canvas but concerning the background and especially the sky i would have sworn it was watercolor. the background is great (love the birds, geese i assume ?). your painting makes me think about La Joconde (or Mona Lisa) by Leonard de Vinci.(partly because of this androgynous japanese guy)

An interesting thing (although it may only be a russian thing): apparently, there's an association - when a person is shown with horns, he/she is displayed to others as a fool, as someone who has been tricked, and often even cheated on...
So many of my friends couldn't get past that even after I told them the subject was a zodiac sign...
None of the people on dA seemed to have that reaction - it seems like artists are more open minded compared to an average person..

haha true, I think it's humorous.
My outside life is contenting/manageable but for the most part it doesn't consist of diversity in thought, if you will. One has to search them out, but once you meet a friendly fellow from China, Russia or Italy through DevArt... well, things opened up for me. Just as so about these horns~
