Mimu. There is something wrong with the upload of this picture because although I can see it here, I can't see it in my faves.
It's been like that since yesterday and I collected it twice. Strange! It must be magic.

Your application of color and texture here capture a wonderful quality and make the title of your work well-envisioned. Do you post works-in-progress? I'd like to see your process for this piece.

thank you very much for your comment and the fav. i never upload the work in progress.. but usually i save the images at the various stages of progress.. this one however i did not save.. i worked right through.. after having had a few crashes whilst working i hardly do this anymore.. it is just too annoying losing something you have started with and put lots of work into.. however this one just wanted to be worked on.. and i sort of rushed through the process of creation.. sorry about that!

I hope that makes more sense.

slowdog294 In reply to mimulux [2010-07-03 23:06:04 +0000 UTC]

It did not show up in the stacks on my watch page. But when I clicked the thumb, there it was. Vary beautiful, my sweet Lady, aye. I think dA dropped the ball when you submitted it. There is a bug in the submission engine on dA. The workaround is to resubmit the file on the edit deviation page. Leave all else the same, simply reupload the file using the add/change file dialogue box.

You are most welcome, dear Pat.

slowdog294 In reply to mimulux [2010-07-03 23:54:57 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes when a file is transmitted, there will be noise on the net, enough to cause packets to be dropped or currupted as the file streams from your PC to the dA servers. If the part of the file that is corrupted happens to be the file header, the dA processing engine will drop the ball. The image will be uploaded, but since the header is misread, a thumb will not be created. The image will show, but the thumb will be that stupid placeholder thingy. Such is the case with your file.

Your local copy of the file is good, but dA's copy is corrupt. Not only that, but the server is stuck in the database and will not update the file, thinking all is well. But you CAN resubmit the file. Go to the dev page where the file lives on dA. Click on edit deviation. Where you add the file, simply change the file to your local version by the means provided. If this does not work, a note to the Help Desk is in order, or perhaps, a visit to the forums concerning problems and solutions is in order. I wish I knew more to tell you, but I have not a clue. I have had a similar issue and the workaround was as I have described. Update the file by overwriting dA's copy.

There is another method you might try. Go into your editor and load the file. Save it under a different name. Then use the method I have described to overwrite dA's copy. If that does not work, there is either a bug in your browser or perhaps your graphics program. The last two causes are unlikely. But since I do not know which browser you are using I cannot know how to fix browser related issues that could manifest themselves as the trouble you are having.

Yep, dA v7 be a buggy thingy indeed, dear Pat. It is not hardly ready for prime time. I would even concider it beta ware. Eep.

slowdog294 In reply to mimulux [2010-07-04 00:39:04 +0000 UTC]

I think most of these issues are dA related. The servers are jammed again and the code that controls them is somewhat buggy. At least, that is what my developement engines tell me when they display scripting errors in a C++ debugger console window. Hang in there. Sooner or later, after the admins get tired of beeing bombarded by their errors, they are bound to get around to fixing things. They need to quit kissing up to Mozilla Firefox and make the site accessable in all its feature set to anyone on any browser and stop writing proprietary code that only works in Firefox with Greasemonkey installed. Sheesh...

You might have a long wait for dA to do a fix, Honey.

They really do not care about anything except their Firefox geegaws. I almost quit this site because of these underhanded shenanegans. I stick around because my art is more important, along with the friends I have made, rather than quibble about administrative foolishness. In all reality, though aggrevating it is, I laugh at those who pretend to be white hat nerds when they are actually black hat corporate ass kissers.

slowdog294 In reply to mimulux [2010-07-04 20:36:13 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the minirant and the foul language. I get stirred up by the errors here for the simple reason that the folks in charge of this site are not the nice folks we think they are.

To prove my point, I did some research. It was easy, actually and required hardly any study, mostly casual observation with certain debugging tools loaded and unning during a browser session. Here is what I did:

I visited the site, logged on as a paying subscriber. The site worked perfectly because there were no ads.

I logged out of the site and closed my browser. I then reloaded the site as a casual visitor. Wow. The spam. The trojans. The back doors opening to places I let NOBODY go. Holy shit, I said.

When a site has to resort to such lowball tactics as altering the structure of your local operating system to get their stream of bullshit onto your hard drive, I have to draw the line. The worst part of all this is that you only see the tip of the iceberg unless you know how to use development debuggers. These not only show the code outside the browser render in real time as a text window that can be paused on any line of the code, they also display and log all script errors in the code. With the debugger, you can crawl inside the code and see what it is doing in the background unseen on the desktop. Very scary. Holy shit, I said again. Just wow.

So I pay my subscription and the ads are gone. But what about the friends I point to the site so they can visit my page who are not members, let alone subscribers? Well, dA slams their PC into the middle of next week with an endless stream of trojan laden spam that even an expert tech would have a hard time fixing and removing. I am against that. It really really pisses me off because all this marketing crap takes up server bandwidth and causes random errors even for paying members. From where I sit, that is plain wrong.

I am done ranting now. I knew I could talk to you about this. We have both been dA members for several years. We are dA veterans. We remember when most of the stuff on the site not only worked right, but actuaqlly had nifty and useful features. Now, it is just a bunch of ad laden geegaws and a ton of crappy art with the good art puntuating and hidden within a sea of, well, crap.

But I love the people I have come to know on this site. Some of them I love deeply. A few I concider my immediate family, from a spiritual and emotional perspective. You are among those folks, my family. And my true dA family is quite small. Yep, I got hundreds of watchers and friends who visit my page with thousands of hits, but the true dA friends in my small circle of cohorts I could count on one hand and have fingers left over. Those are my troop, my kind.

Lots of love, dear Pat. Namaste.

Many hugs and tender swiss kisses, aye.

oh my.. this really sounds scarey... so what to do richard? i too have my dA friends.. not many.. but i dont need many. better a few good ones.. then hundreds of bad ones.... and you too are amongst my friends ) and i hope you know that

so.. what to do? the art.. yes.. it is fairly average.. but then i am not really here because of the art.. or not any longer.. for the real art i have moved on to more professional sites.. where there are no emotes, ads, etc etc blabla.. but there are competitions.. good forums for discussions, good support for artists and good promotion for your art. but do i need dA messing up with my pc?? not really......

thanks for the info my friend

namaste to you

If you are knowledgable and careful, there is not much to fear. If not, be very afraid, indeed, dear Pat. Masrket driven sites are not safe at all.

Fortunately, most of the damage dA does is session specific, thus it is temporary at best and can easily be fixed simply by running a regular AV scan when you first log in to Windows and then cleaning the temporary file caches, both in Windows and your browser. It is a user fix if you know what to do when you recognize the tale tale signs of marketing afoot.

But if you think dA is bad, their stuff is mild compared to other sites like neopets, pogo, myspace, tagged, twitter and facebook (no caps on purpose.) These are REALLY bad. Very dangerous. But even these are harmlessly visitable with the right security package running. I use AVG. Full on. It works and does not slow me down. I also script IE7 so that it only opens certain ports and allows certain BHO's and service interactions. I will NOT run IE8. No way.

I can watch TV in HD full screen inside Internet Explorer without third party plugins. It is flawless. IE is programmed to use Windows Media Player 11 as an activeX cotrol rather than an app that runs separately. Windows Media Player was plugged in during its installation and equipped with all manor of playback codecs so that IE could open any media file supported by Media Player directly on the page within the same tab.

Scripting makes things fast and efficient. AVG blocks the popups and ads which IE's built in protection fails to catch, and IE plays the file in activeX WMP with total precision. Nice. All Microsoft with a tad of help from some great software engineers in Germany. Thank you, AVG team. Totally secure and glitch free on a decent ADSL/LAN router connection.

You are most welcome, my sweet Lady. Did not mean to frighten you, just let you know why dA has the bugs it does. I am a tech like that. One of the white hat kind. A maverick who does not succomb to social norms.

ah well then.. i also use AVG.. have even got the full version with license.. i empty the caches and temp files regularly.. so.. i guess that is ok LOL .. no no .. i am not that easily scared.. i feel pretty ok with AVG.. seems to be a good program. at least a lot better than the oh so highly praised norton.. which is rubbish with a capital R. i never had so many infections on my pc as when i used that program!

so thanks for the info richard.. greatly appreciated

It is very user friendly. But if you dig deep, it is a tech's best friend. Very powerful software. It has saved my bacon more than once. AVG is so much better than all the others that I would not trust a PC without it.

I prefer chocolate. I am a bonefied certified chocoholic. I get mighty testy without my cocoa.

In the spice department, I enjoy all things lava hot. Oh, and fresh herbs of all kinds. I would rather go for spice instead of salt, and when salt is used, I prefer real unrefined sea salt. On the sweet side, concerning sugars, I prefer brown cane and of course, Vermont Maple.

I am on a see food diet. I see food, I eat it.

I come from a time and place wherein you had to beat it before you could eat it.
