..Yeah but he's not gay, I mean its not his fault his dad had to take his mom's name.. In Japanese customs a Guy takes the Girls family name, so therefore if we were to go with The chief's real last name then there wouldn't be the Light is really gay debate... Damn you L!! You just had to make one of the best Anime guys of all time look like a gay and force poor Misa-chan to commit suicide in so many fan art pieces...

She was led to him because she could see that he was Kira because of her shinigami eyes... so I guess it was because of the Death Note. But if he had given up the Death Note and never gotten it back again, he probably would have been a great detective and married to Misa.
