Description
Wow, it's been a long time since I did an ATLA bento box!I didn't even really intend to make this one, but I was making dinner and after slicing through a GIANT pile of cabbage...well, I couldn't help myself.
1st Layer: Cabbage Merchant! Steamed cabbage hat, egg sheet/rice paper facial hair, crab eyes, nori details, rice ball brushed with a little soy sauce/rice vinegar for skintone; spring rolls with ground turkey and cabbage (of course).
2nd Layer: Carved cucumber cup of ranch, some cucumber slices masquerading as heads of cabbage, black bean garlic dipping sauce for spring rolls, fumi slaw, and a cranberry/oatmeal cookie for color (and because I reeeeally wanted a cookie).
The egg sheet did not come out as grey as I wanted (I need to learn to start writing down my food color combos) so I added the rice paper on top. I think he still came out okay though.
Others in the ATLA bento series:
Toph
Zuko
Aang
Sokka
Azula
Katara

Needs moar cabbage.
No seriously, steamed cabbage is the shit, and so is the cabbage merchant. I have to say that he was almost my favorite character, corresponding to my almost favorite old people food. Long story short, I do believe that this is a healthy, bentorific win.

Hahaha thanks! I love cabbage (and the cabbage merchant) so much, and feel they're both under-appreciated for their awesomeness.

Haha it's good to see something from you again! This is super cute and the black bean garlic dipping sauce sounds super yummy! I'll have to look for some new dipping sauces because I haven't really gotten anything in a while. I keep saying I'm going to try this recipe and that recipe, but classes and homework get in the way. It looks very yummy though! Cabbage should be used more, it's really delicious.

Thanks, it feels good to have time to play with my food again
Black bean garlic sauce has always been my fave (it's what my mom always made when I was a kid) and I can't eat spring rolls or dumplings without it.
Cabbage is the best!

I know the feeling.
Wow my family has always loved asian food, but my mother never really made anything besides her "chinese" and sushi. i'm the one who actually plays around and uses things.

LOL I end up taking asian cooking completely for granted as a kid (dunno how old I was when I realized not everybody ate rice at every meal O_o). I need to start a mini-series of my family recipes someday
