Description
It's Dr. Seuss's birthday! My daughter's school had a big celebration for it and she came home wearing a giant striped paper hat so of course I had to indulge her for her dinnerLeft: steamed asparagus, spam, homemade mac 'n cheese.
Right: Cat in the Hat (nori/color), rice.
Ughhhh Seuss's sketchy-style is so hard to do in nori. Lost most of the fun details but ah wellll.

Thank you so very much!
I printed up the image from the book cover and layered it on top of a sheet of nori, then just went to work with my (food-only) x-acto knife!
I normally just freehand cut or sketch the picture myself so it was actually kinda nice to have a guide this time
And my daughter loved it a lot <3

Lol, it's a regular x-acto knife you get at craft stores--I just make sure not to use this on anything but food Definitely don't use any specialty stuff (haha I'm too cheap).

I stacked the right side on top of the left side and closed the lid, same as always
It's my same old regular box , I just find that setting the top tier inside the lid for pictures is much easier than wrestling with camera angles and such.

so when you open it up again the rice on the right side doesn't stick with the left side? D:

No, they stack right on top of each other like a normal two-tiered box (each side facing up), I just have the top tier positioned strangely for the picture

Amazing! May I ask what tools you use to cut the nori? Just scissors or do you have a special blade of some sort?

Thanks! I have an x-acto (craft) knife that I bought and use only on food/nori. I'm not very stellar at scissors

Thanks! It didn't take nearly as long as you'd think (since I cheated and used a picture as a guide) but definitely not something I'd like to do every day

Lol, she always has great suggestions for bentos (in the summer I let her pick every day) and sometimes draws me a diagram for how she wants them to look
