Description
*Edit* There was one little detail in the linework of the face that started to bother me the night after I posted it. That detail just looked out of place with the other linework and eventually started driving me crazy so I removed it. In my most recent edit I finally fixed the shield. I had a total brainfart about how the handle is positioned and it had been bothering me for months. I also just redid the shading. It had been bothering me for a while and I was mulling over ordering a print so I decided to clean the shading up a bit.*More Edit* In addition to redoing the shield (again) It was bothering me that the lineart was too pixelated so I redid the lines. While doing so I decided to redo the eyes, fix the plate on her right leg, and repaint things since I have a new brush that looks good for hair. I made the terrible mistake of printing a copy of this pic to post in my cubicle so things just started bothering me.
*More Edit Part D'eux* The eyes were bugging me so I redid the makeup, changed the pupil size and light on the eyes.
*Even More Edit* Eyes still bugging me, so I went back to a modified version of the original.
Spurred in part by my discussion of armor with who is apparently as big a medieval gear geek as I am I decided to depict one of my more heavily armored LFR (D&D 4E organized play) characters in more pragmatic and historically accurate armor while accomplishing something that medieval armor never did, flatter the female form (find any old picture of Joan of Arc or any movie version where the armor was in any way flattering, I challenge you). I also wanted to do a different style of shoulder pads than I normally do. The lower torso armor is completely not historic but then no period armors would allow a knight to bend over since they all had solid plates past the navel.
She's one of my many vaguely French looking female characters with short dark hair and light eyes in armor but I decided that she should actually sound French (why not, I had German, Russian, Chinese, Irish, Scottish, English, and Australian accented characters already). Additionally, I figured she should be pushy. She started off more diplomatic but very quickly began to just intimidate the heck out of people. I got such a kick out of cowing big burly men with an 11 Strength, slightly built, woman under 6ft in height that she just started throwing her (proverbial) weight around all the time. Now she completely acts the self-important noble and has demanded apologies from burgomasters and the heads of merchant consortiums... and gotten them. She is benevolent and offers aid to those in need who cannot help themselves without asking payment but she's left large thuggish demi-human men crying in the fetal position without lifting a hand to them. When shopping for deities I decided to go with the Red Knight (a.k.a. the Lady of Tactics), who is a demi-god under the War god Tempus. Given her high Intelligence, Knightly demeanor, and breadth of knowledge Marjolein would fit nicely as a worshiper of the Red Knight.
Now as to the build, Marjolein was built initially do accomplish one goal. Namely, "kite a paladin mark with at-will attacks". For her mark to mean anything I had to go Charismadin but they can't make ranged basic attacks so I hybridized her with Bard (which also hits off of Charisma) and gave her an encounter heal to make up for the daily heals she was losing while making making it to where she actually had no secondary stat. Being a human Paladin/Bard Hybrid with Paladin Armor Proficiency left her with about the highest armor and non armored defenses of any character I've ever built so I decided to capitalize on this by giving her a ranged and melee at will attack that gives a -2 to attack rolls so that her foes could attack her monstrous defenses at a penalty or attack allies at a -4 and take automatic damage galore. Later, as I began to use her to babysit parties without leaders or defenders or to supplement both I decided to multiclass her with Resourceful Warlord to increase her leader qualities and making her a Paladin/Bard/Warlord. With a Preservation Shield, Stirring Shout, Virtue, and Unicorn's Charge in addition to her Majestic Word I've seen her out heal other leaders in fights and she has gone through whole fights without being hit a single time while being targeted by more than one monster every round. More than that, her fairly balanced stats and Bard of all Trades feat mean that she can assist in basically any skill and she even managed to make a DC23 Thievery check, despite having no dexterity bonus.
D&D, Living Forgotten Realms, Tempus, The Red Knight etc are property of Wizards of the Coast or their respective copyright holders etc.

You also get tricks like the one in Tomb of Horrors where you open a chest and get teleported out of a room ending up falling out of a mouth carved on a wall. When you try to go back through the portal you find out that the portal on your side is a sphere of annihilation in disguise.

The subjects learn very quickly to associate the sound "Gygax" with having to roll up new characters and will have rolled up Strength and Constitution by the time you finish saying it.

There is a quote, whom I am not sure it is directly of him, but apparently in a 'basic D&D' text of earlier days, he adviced players to NOT name characters before they survived up to level 5.

Two methods from those days I heard of where the "spiritual successor" who was a zerox copy of the original but whose name may have a number appended to it. And the n Slayer (n being the creature/device that last killed the hero). I remember having to have multiple character sheets, just in case.

I like the system they have in Hellas where the game intends for you to have successors who take on your mantel (and gear, and honor score) even if your character does not die.

Its probably best described as "Greeks in Space". The idea is that the Hellanistic world is a series of colonized worlds with alien species rather than city states with legendary monsters. Its a fun combat system that is designed to encourage and reward over the top actions of heroism with style, kinda like Feng Shui or Hong Kong Action Theater.

And having a Power Jewel means "breathing fire" (Flame Cyclone is Close Blast 3, just like the heroic version Dragon Breath) twice in one encounter. I should get her a Flask of Dragon's Breath too just so she can potentially blast 3 fire three times in one fight.

Well, Living Greyhawk left a bad taste in my mouth but maybe that was just the awful modules we got in Bandit Kingdoms. Since we do have people with characters who worship Mystra (who is "dead") I suppose adding exarches that aren't in the Player's or Campaign guides could be done. After all, I have a Diabolic Soul Tiefling who does not "worship" Asmodeus but is related by blood to him (I love the Diabolic Soul Heritage feat).

Yeah, i guess the fact the 'regions' were fixed and set and you only played there (I think) could be good or bad for games, depending on the material and workers...
I was speaking of an homebrew/PoL world, but yeah, its all possible... I guess there is a larger than said number of exarches potentialy, if compared to our real world and the numbers of saints, patrons, minor gods, etc... in faiths.
As for Mystra, eh... Sorry fans of her, but I hope it isn't possible. Nothing bad like doing a controversial change, and being it reversed later in game or out of game 'just because it isn't FAIR!'. As somes angry fanboys who wish the fall of WOTC want for FR.
Because the fans of current state must be f***ed as well... 'Revenge'. *rolls eyes*

If you played modules outside of your region you got penalized for it by losing the ability to play a couple of modules/year each time you played outside your home region. Bandit Kingdoms writers sucked, hard. And our DMs would regularly get exasperated by how poorly written they were.
The only homebrew D&D I've been involved in since 3rd ed (not 3.5 but 3) has been games I've DMed and none of my players ever wanted to get into cosmology so I never really fleshed out any exarchs for my games.
I don't care which gods they kill but we have people who find it funny to have their characters argue that Mystra isn't dead as a roleplaying hook since a number of modules revolve around the breakdown of the weave. And I have a sentient plant who feels the need to frequently tell the world that he is a "crittertarian" and does not eat anything without a face.

damn, look like a bad deal :/ I see it got better at least for LFR.
Sadly yes, it happens frequently that all the details efforts we do for player... well, they prefer to jump right ina ction first, at least. not that its not understandable, but a point about homebrew (or even official worlds) at time...
Yeah, it can be interesting roleplay wise,a nd possible that a character feels there is somethign 'off' with her 'death',. and such. Especialy more in Planescape notably...
Albeit my point was more on purist fans and all that. I start to have a love-hate leaning on loathing nowadays for my favorite setting... Not that the changes were always good or well-done, but the amount of FAN RAGE HEAT... Let's keep her dead, it would be silly to do yet again anotehr uturn. Also, to piss off 'You keeled eet!' bois.
And that plant dude.. I loled some. XD

Fortunately for me (and the group) while I love roleplaying and creating elaborate backstories, I'm also great at writing short and evocative box text and (for my mostly munchkin party) I'm a wicked min-maxer and DM who threw mean trixy and innovative encounters at them every week.
Gods are like superheroes, death means little to them as they get reborn, resurrected, or turn out to be the reincarnation of a previously dead god who just remembered who they are all the time. Killing her was a way to reconcile 4th Ed D&D with the FR novels and they'll probably bring her back as part of a promotion to sell their line of fiction books soon enough.
The plant guy is a riot to play. He asks offensive and racist questions of everybody because of things he's heard about their species (i.e. "Do all Dwarven women have beards?", "Is it true that humans are incapable of reproducing without the consumption of large quantities of alcohol?", or "Is it true that gnomes are pygmy Eladrin from deep jungles of Chult?"). He talks entirely too much, thinks out loud, is "amazed" by most everything, and has absolutely no concept of personal space. But since he does a mind-blowing amount of healing and has gross skill checks people tolerate his "eccentricities".

Well, could be indeed.. or not. I hope not though, it would be cheesy quite, albeit one can imagine some powerfull, mighty entity like her having Batman-grade, 'crazy prepared' plans in case of.. troubles.
I just hope we won't see that, in case ever -gods forbid- Wotc/Hasbro fails and/or sell D&D brand out for some reasons (I hope, hope NOT the Pathfinder dudes and their haughty 'we are righteous and holy true defender of D&D-if-not-in-name *shudders*), a Screw You Fans of WOTC's Unholy Edition moment and a pull back of changes like in FR, *just* to screw those 'wrong' fans.
Amazing. XD I'd so swipe off this concept. So hilarious-sounding.
Amusing doubly for a model I always had in mind for those plant dudes Wilden was Spar(?) of the Breath of Fire 2 SNES rpg, who was much THE EXACT OPPOSITE. XD Haughty a bit, laconic though a lot, well-manered some, and so on. XD

I'm not sure that they can do something like that with WotC characters under the Open Game License.
I think the Radio Free Homlet Podcast did a Druid based off of Spar for a Build This segment in their first year (with a character whose wild shape was a plant but was before they added the Wilden race).
Asclepius has been a gas to play on a full table. If you want to use the concept go for it. I'm sure I got the idea from a couple of things I can't remember and besides I'd like to further propagate the term "Crittertarian".

Pathfinder does not own the IP they only have a license and that is under a ton of restrictions. Besides, if Hasbro wanted cut D&D loose, Paizo would never have the kind of money Hasbro wants.

It's unlikely that anybody bigger than Hasbro would pick up the license any time soon. They dropped the Star Wars license but they never owned that license. I'd imagine that they would probably leave the license unused for a few years until the economy picks up and somebody with cash decides to give it another shot.
