Description
The truck rolled over the soft carpet of your living room, the sounds of a car speeding "vrooooooom veeerrrrr!" a smile splashed across your chubby cheeked face as you swerved the truck to the left the imaginary police cars following it in a daring chase. the truck was about to jump the fault, that was the swirl of green in the carpet a voiced called out to you pulling you away from your playing. "(Y/N), dear! I think someone is here for you". Your eyes almost popped out of your tiny head as your grandmother walked into the room a mixing bowl in her hand, a smile on her face as she looked down at you. You bounced up off the ground and ran as fast as your short legs could carry you to the massive door, you stopped short seeing the old leathery skinned man being your sweet ole Grampy, next to a young woman black hair going to just beyond her shoulders. But those two adults barely caught your attention as you looked over seeing the small boy wearing a baseball hat that hung off of him, probably because it was just a bit too big for him. “Tadashi!” you cried as you ran over to him, he looked over seeing you a wide smile growing on his face as he ran to meet you halfway for a big, and tight hug. Even if you had seen him the day before every time you met it was a long needed reunion. I mean who would blame you for missing your bestest friend in the whole wide world? You pulled away from the hug and grabbed his hand, jumping up and down as you pulled him back to the living room. “I got a new truck! You can play with it if you want! It can transform into a robot but I like it as a truck!” he smiled at you following you along much more calmly than you were. “hehe okay” he squeezed your hand and you looked back at him smiling as you pulled him along.
“Awe they're so cute aren't they?” asked the hushed voice of Tadashi’s mother, your grandfather nodded a sad smile on his face “they sure are…” he looked up at her from you two seeing you pulling Tadashi into the living room your innocent ears far away enough not to hear “Mrs. Hamada.. there’s something me and Diane wanted to tell you..” your grandfather whispered gesturing her to follow him into the kitchen, she nodded however a concerned look on her face grew. As they went to the kitchen Tadashi caught sight of his mothers face as he looked up from playing with your truck. He stopped moving the truck as he looked up just as he rolled it over the green swirl. In mind your imagination pictured the truck falling into the fault, you looked up at Tadashi wondering why he stopped. “Tadas-”, he grabbed your hand and looked at you pressing his index finger against his lips “shh.” You nodded and he stood up pulling you up with him, you remained silent as of his instructions following him to the kitchen both of you crouching down behind the wall that lead into the kitchen so you wouldn't be caught as you listened in.
“Mrs. Hamada.. you remember meeting our daughter, (Y/N)’s aunt last year at the New Years party, right?” Your grandfather spoke a somber tone in his voice.
“Yes, I do.. Is everything alright? Did something happen?” Mrs. Hamada asked worry embedded into her voice.
“For right now.. but we've received a call from her parole officer, that she was emitted to the hospital last night” your grandmother said a gasp escaping from Tadashi’s mother.
“I-Is she alright? What happened?”
Your grandfather sighed, you could imagine him running his hand through his hair and your grandmother rubbing his back, something you had seen a lot when they spoke of your Aunt.
“She overdosed on drugs again, this time the police found her instead of her..” he growled under his breath “ so called ‘friends’ the police almost arrested her but her parole officer was able to the drop the charges… because of this, we have to move… ” you didn't want to hear anymore of this, you didn't know exactly where your Aunt lived, but you knew it was far away from here. Far away from your best friend, your only friend really. You could feel Tadashi grip your hand tightly his own form shaking as the news hit him. You both didn't want to lose each other, how could you when you've known each other since nursery school, spending every day with each other. And on weekends sleeping over each others house spending nights just talking and playing quietly so the adults couldn't hear you. How could you accept that all you knew and cared about was being taken away from you.
Soon you felt heat rise to your face along with your anger, ‘why do we have to move?! Just because Aunt Barby took too much cold mebicine doesn't mean we have to leave!!’. Tears started to drip down your face as you as you walked out of your hiding spot Tadashi trying to pull you back “(Y/N) no!’ he whispered, but it was too late.
“ We’ll be moving around this su-.. (Y-Y/N)?” your grandfather caught sight of you his heart plummeting seeing the tears running down your soft pink cheeks. Your grandmother and Mrs. Hamada turned their eyes widening seeing you standing there Tadashi standing behind you, his face not as red or teary but still clearly as upset.
“(Y/N), dear-”
“NO! I DON’T WANNA LEAVE!!! YOU CAN’T MAKE ME!!” you yelled grabbing Tadashi’s hand pulling him away with you as your grandparents tried to call out for you. You pulled him up the stairs with you to your room. Once inside you slammed the door as hard as your little arms could wanting them to hear how upset you were about this. You turned around going over to your bed grabbing the loose blankets from it dragging them to your closet where you tossed them over the two containers of legos that had a gap in between them. You felt Tadashi follow you into the tiny fort you had made. You pulled him closer to you wrapping your arms around him burying your head into his shoulder, sniffling and hiccuping softly into him. He held you to him, you could hear the soft sobs from him as he gripped onto you not wanting to ever let go of you. “They’re not going to take you away, (Y/N). I won’t let them.” he whispered to you over his sobs.
The two of you remained like that for what seemed like hours, holding onto each other for dear life determined not to let the other go. There was a knock on the door and the two of you both kept quiet looking at each other eyes red and puffy, your hands in a vice like grip on each other.
“Tadashi? (Y/N)?” the quiet voice of Tadashi’s mother called out the door opening with her voice. There were two sets of footsteps that followed her in roaming about the room till they noticed the blankets covered containers and two pairs of feet sticking out from the blanket. They smiled sadly at the image as Mrs. Hamada kneeling down in front of their makeshift hideaway, making them shuffle back pressing their backs against the wall. She noticed their quick movement and sighed. “Tadashi.. (Y/N)... You know..” she lifted the blanket her heart going out to them seeing their teary eyed faces. “this doesn't mean you two have to stop being friends, you’ll be able to see each other. And (Y/N) can visit us in the summer and on school breaks!”
“And you can still talk to each other, you can talk to each other on video cameras, it’ll be like you two are right next to each other” your grandmother said walking up to the two of you. You sniffled turning away from them nuzzling into Tadashi’s shoulder. You felt him squeeze you, turning his body in a manner so that he was shielding you from them. “Mama no! (Y/N) Can’t leave! She’s my best friend!”
“Tadashi please, I know you both don’t want this, but as soon as (Y/N)’s aunt is better (Y/N) can come back” Mrs. Hamada explained reaching out to them. You lifted your head looking up at Mrs. Hamada and your grandparents seeing their sincere faces, their eyes pleading for you to come out. You then looked up at Tadashi seeing that he was already looking at you waiting to see what you would say. To him whatever you said he would do so. You sniffled nodding your head as you lifted your arm, reaching out laying your hand into Mrs. Hamada’s hand, earning a soft smile from her. You held Tadashi’s hand as she pulled you out, she hugging you as soon as you both came out.
“ I promise, you two will always be friends for as long as you live.”
If she could see into the future she would see that that would not be fate of the two of you.
