Description Jep, i just finished my second predator tank. In fact i finished it on Saturday, along with some more models yet to be uploaded (but i have already taken their pictures )

This one (as well as the upcoming 2 uploads) have been weathered quite much, mostly to test the effect. All upcoming models will be finished in a hopefully efficient way for a solid look making games fun to watch, but i don't want to go overboard as i am tired of painting them. I will use the models as a canvas to learn new techniques and methods to make the upcoming army as prefect as possible!

Feel free to spread this piece to your friends! Be sure to leave a link to this submission or to my Deviantart profile!

Got an airbrush? Got a sponge? Grab ya' paints and bring it on! Its crucial to know when the weathering and lights have to be painted. That's the secret to get a tank like this!

Right now I´m training painting with an airbrush

Good, good

Keep practicing with it! That's the only way to improve airbrush skills! And try to use it on fairly small spots! Like spacemarine-lenses and stuff

In fact i am quite curious what you will be making as a replacement model orientated around the White Scars!

Looking amazing my friend. The weathering is probably my favorite part, looks like she has seen enough action to keep its Tech-priests busy!

Oh yes... i can already hear them mumbling in code they had vowed never to use

Very nice love the weathering.

Who makes these 1/35 Kit's?

Thank you! It was a first try as i wanted to advance my overall paintjob, and this was an important detail i have been missing so far

This is not directly a 1/35 kit, but a unit used in a tabletop wargame, called Warhammer 40k, distributed by Games Workshop. Basically, it is a model kit roughly the scale you mentioned, even though i think it is a bit smaller. The units are used in said wargame to compete against another player in an equal sized army, using an absurdely large rulebook It is quite much fun, actually ^^

Should lead you to the page of the distributor. The army i have choosen is a Space Marine Army, the model seen here is a Support Choice, Predator Tank.

Yep... pretty expensive

Yea that is what i was thinking it had something to do with games workshop. and yea anything from them is not cheap. I guess they think their stuff is made of gold but that being said most regular model kits nowadays are expensive if you want the good ones.

Yeah, some models are so much out of perspective, I have found my own ways to stay on the tracks
On the other hand, the models not only provide a large variety on the model itself, but also encourages modifications and own creations.
Another project of mine is the scratchbuild of an entire Thunderhawk, not being able to (and i don´t want to, either) spend over 400 pounds on a single model (even though it is pretty large)

Deamand In reply to Mineraleater [2015-12-10 21:31:49 +0000 UTC]

Well lets see Here in the States i think that would be almost 500.00 dollars if i am not mistaken.
No i would not pay that i don't care how big or detailed it is but that is just me I am sure there are others that will pay for that.

it is 610 € as far as i know... sooo you might want to bump up that number

I wont either, but as said, i scratchbuild it myself. This way it is even more an accomplishment to finish that one off ^^

yea i like scratch building.

Even though it is pretty hard work sometimes, the result can get close to the original piece.
It is simply more badass

It's like...er...

There's something that doesn't completely right here, but I can't put my finger on it.

Mineraleater In reply to Dgs-Krieger [2015-12-10 20:10:51 +0000 UTC]

Lascannon has some moldlines, the underside isn´t weathered and is blue, I did not really bother to do the cleanest job possible as i wanted to finish it of.
As well, the vent in the back could be a bit darker, but i forgot to do so ^^

And yes, the weathering is just an experiment to get used to that technique

Dgs-Krieger In reply to Mineraleater [2015-12-10 20:46:15 +0000 UTC]

I think it's mostly...that the tank looks...strangely clean. You have a lot of missing paint, but...there is no grime between the plates and inside the angles. It looks like a clean tank that went through a storm of metal balls

Mineraleater In reply to Dgs-Krieger [2015-12-10 20:52:40 +0000 UTC]

Sooo... you are missing some kind of water stains and oil that has been spilled?
I will try to look into the use of weathering powders, and try to get some sand into the edges, as i want to go for a moore dusted look (you will see in a later picture that i had other plans some years ago)

Thank you for the advice!

Dgs-Krieger In reply to Mineraleater [2015-12-10 21:20:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that. I don't like using myself as an example, but...

dgs-krieger.deviantart.com/art…

You see how that Kan is full of rust? The first battle damage you get, always, would be just dust between the plates and angles. The dirty tracks will only happen if you go through sandy terrain, and the bullet holes...well, only when you're in actual combat.

You usually want to keep the large, flat surfaces completely clean; and the backside of the tank too. Anything that is not 'outwards' shouldn't have its paint chipped.

The dust on the tracks look very good, and the chipped paint is well done...just sometimes not in the right places.

Using your own work is quite good, as you know exactly what you did there and it also gives me the chance to confirm that you are not talking s***

Yeah, i can see that rust. Might be a good idea. I also want to add more Dust effects (as said).
The get that rust effect, what color did you use for that one? Really looks like something that might boost the overall appearance! (You might see that in some weeks on my models )

Rhinox Hide! Plain, simple brown. Although it may be a tad too dark for Astartes. After all, you're looking for a 'dirty' apperance, while I am going more for 'covered in shit'. XD

There's also this Vallejo paint called Smokey Ink. I haven't used it too much, but I've been told it's good for making dirty stuff.

Smokey ink... i might get a chance to look into that one. Thank you for that hint!

Really cool weathering! That must have taken ages...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mineraleater In reply to TheShepster [2015-12-10 10:42:24 +0000 UTC]

Define ages.

Took me about an hour

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheShepster In reply to Mineraleater [2015-12-10 13:38:55 +0000 UTC]

Only an hour? Now that's pretty fast. I think I would need at least 3 or more hours for this kind of weathering effects on a piece as big as a predator...

Mineraleater In reply to TheShepster [2015-12-10 14:13:50 +0000 UTC]

Using a brush or a sponge? Speeds up the process! I recently did the first brown tone on two landraider tanks, similar degree of chipped paint, in about an hour, maybe a bit more than that.
