I’m gonna be honest: this book got a really bad rap. I’m going to start this out by stating something really controversial: I enjoyed reading Spottedleaf’s Heart. Hear me out, I did not enjoy Thistleclaw being a pedo, that was wrong on so many levels, but overall it was an enjoyable read. Please don’t fight me on that. I do believe that Thistleclaw being a pedophile was disgusting, but I still enjoyed reading the book. Was it a good book? No. Did I enjoy reading it? Yes. Does that make sense? No? Okay. XD I could go on for while about how I feel about this book, but I’ll cut it short.
This book, however, did leave quite a bit to desire character-wise. Some of the characters were butchered(Thistleclaw and Spottedleaf specifically; but I hate both of them so it doesn’t bother me too much). Then, it got me thinking. What if I altered the story a bit? Made an AU to tie up some loose ends, specifically where Thistleclaw is concerned. Thus I created an AU which made Thistleclaw less of a pedophile(but no less a manipulative jerk). This version of Thistleclaw uses Spottedleaf’s crush on him to get her to join the Dark Forest rather than forgetting about Snowfur altogether and falling for a cat much younger than him, who he ends up luring into the Dark Forest. It’s not a big change, really, but I like the thought better.
Then I decided to kinda take the idea and run with it I guess? Karma ended up catching up with Thistleclaw, which led him to be totally abandoned by Snowfur, who realized that Bluestar was right about him, and end up being killed by Redtail... but I’ll let you read about that in more detail in the summary.

So, a summary of the AU:
When Thistleclaw first met Spottedleaf, he knew that she had potential. She had the motivation to be a loyal warrior, and had the same ambition that he did: the goal of being leader. She also reminded him of his dead mate, Snowfur, which made him fond of her. She possessed the kindness and grace that Snowfur did, and he missed his mate deeply. Spottedleaf was also fond of him, and so they became good friends.
Thistleclaw and Spottedleaf had a mentor/apprentice relationship, but Spottedleaf craved for more than that. She wanted to be Thistleclaw’s mate. Shredtail, Thistleclaw’s Dark Forest mentor, noticed that Spottedleaf was fond of Thistleclaw. He proposed to Thistleclaw that they use her affections for him to manipulate her into joining the Dark Forest. Spottedleaf was naive, and her being trusting of Thistleclaw, she’d do whatever he said. Thistleclaw was reluctant at first. He loved only Snowfur, and showing romantic feelings towards any other cat, especially Spottedpaw, felt wrong. Thistleclaw believed that Dark Forest training would be essential for Spottedpaw to become a powerful warrior. He convinced himself that it was only for her protection.
So Thistleclaw faked feelings for Spottedleaf, and convinced her to come with him to the Dark Forest. Spottedleaf trained there with Thistleclaw for a little while, despite knowing that it was wrong, before seeing him kill a cat. That was the last straw. Spottedleaf and Thistleclaw argued over this. Spottedleaf told Thistleclaw that if he truly loved her, he would stop coming to the Dark Forest. Thistleclaw confessed that he never loved her, and Spottedpaw vowed never to return to the Dark Forest, and that she would instead follow the path of a medicine cat. Thistleclaw gave up on Spottedpaw knowing that her path was that of a medicine cat, and completely ignored her after that.
Snowfur came to Thistleclaw while he was hunting alone one day. Thistleclaw was happy to see her, but she did not feel the same. She felt betrayed that Thistleclaw had tried to find a mate in such a young cat, as if leaving her behind. Thistleclaw clarified that he still loved her and was only trying to use Spottedpaw’s feelings for him to lure her into the Dark Forest. Snowfur was even more appalled by this, stating that his behavior was horrible. He manipulated a cat that looked up to him and tried to convince her to become bloodthirsty like him. She told Thistleclaw that she could never love a cat as cruel as him, and realized that Bluestar had been right all along. She left, and never spoke to him again.
After becoming a full medicine cat, Spottedleaf told her brother, Redtail, what had happened with Thistleclaw. Thistleclaw overheard them talking, and threatened that if they ever told anyone about his training that they’d live- die, rather- to regret it.
To make sure that no one found out, Thistleclaw tracked Spottedleaf and Redtail down when they were collecting herbs by the RiverClan border. Thistleclaw lunged at Spottedleaf, but before he could kill her was slain by Redtail. Redtail and Spottedleaf agreed to never tell anyone about this and blamed it on a RiverClan patrol.

Basically, this is less of an AU and more of a bunch of headcannons that I have, but oh well. I’m still gonna call it an AU. Anyway, onto the ref sheet itself.

I’m going to be making a PMV/Animatic about this AU. These are the designs for the characters that I’m using. Feel free to use these designs as long as you credit me! Anyway, the PMV itself will contain things that canonically happened in the books, and some stuff that happened only in my AU. So it’s basically just gonna be a jumble of things... but an organized and hopefully awesome jumble. You’ll see where some of these characters come to play when the video is finished.
