After a month-long hiatus, I'm back to humanizing! Now with colored backgrounds ^_^
The batch includes the following experiments:
1) Yaarp: This is the first experiment to portrayed a child, and the reason I think I imagined him as such was because of his brief interactions with Pleakley near the end of the episode. Pleakley comforted him almost as one would with a young child from what I could recall, so his human form reflects this. Initially he was going to be younger, like primary/elementary-school aged, but I aged him up slightly to around 10-12 years old since they way I drew him made him look older than I planned. I was too attached to his sketch to fix it tbh.
I had to make some choices with his hair, whether to make it 100% hair similar to Elvis's or to design it around his horn. Since his horn is vital to his primary function, I opted for the latter here. And the stripes from his tail were incorporated into his polo since it's an improvement from a plain shirt.
2) Sparky: I don't think I realized how much of a superhero vibe I gave him until I got to coloring him haha. In hindsight I could have had him wear a lighthouse outfit instead, but I thought the suit was a cooler option at the time. This version is how he'd look straight out of the experiment pod before he ended up staying at the lighthouse.
In the initial sketch he was portrayed as having a normal-sizd head, but wore a long horizontal helmet that would make him look similar to the main character from Katamari, except the helmet would be the the source of Sparky's powers. Before doing the lineart, I experimented with making his hair sticking out from the sides and the design stuck.
3) Ace: An odd experiment from the bunch, as he was designed to be purely good by accident. His experiment design was obviously based off a superhero, from his build to the coloration of his hands and body resembling those of superhero gloves and emblem. Honestly, his human design is bland, as his powers aren't specialized, but rather has basic capabilities required to save people. His outfit looks like a bit of a mix of the Flash and Superman. The wings on his head of course are from his ears. I wasn't going to give him a cape at first, but it's a pretty classic superhero thing, so I added it near the end and it adds to the hero design. But yeah, he's just a...hero?
4) Belle: Another fun experiment to work on! Her primary function is to scream really REALLY loud. And from what it seems, her experiment design doesn't really play into it, but her design is rather unique - especially her head shape. To get a good starting point, I started her human design based more on the context of her episode and ability.
The episode I think was a Halloween episode for the second season, but since they already had an episode revolved around Halloween, the writers I guess had to come up with something else. Lilo, Myrtle, Jumba, Pleakley, and Stitch were in a forest in the middle of the night to prove whether Night Marchers were real or not. There was a lot of rain and screaming (which I think Lilo claimed were signs the Night Marchers were near). Turns out the screaming was from Belle. So yeah.
The pitch of her screams reminded me of a scream creepy dead girls would scream once they were seen by whoever ran into them. Weird and oddly specific, I know, but that's how it is. So her age was pinpointed to be somewhere in the preteens, as I wanted her to have a more innocent, youthful appearance -- since if anyone saw a child in the rainy forest by themselves, they'd be worried for them and want to make sure they were alright. But then once she was approached, she deafen anyone who came near with an ear-piercing scream.
Once the ghost girl idea was there to stay in her design, I thought about the Banshee, which are dead women that scream. It was a perfect match for Belle. An interesting feature I noticed in images of Banshees was that their long hair flowed in the wind as they screamed. With Belle's unique head shape, I converted it to hair long enough to flow as she screamed. The white dress was also incorporated from the Banshee, as especially in a dark, rainy setting, it fit with the spooky factor from her episode.
As she is not actually a ghost, I made the dress more in tact and not as tattered or soaked. The dress was also given a dark blue sash and matching shoes, as it adds hints of blue into her outfit. She was going to be barefoot, but ultimately I gave her basic slip-on shoes since I one: suck at drawing feet, and two: it works in a more casual, post- "finding her one true place" sense. Representing that she was no longer a young girl lurking the forests at night, but screams at Nani to wake up in the morning.
Hopefully my rambling made sense haha.
