Map of the Ukrainian Revolutionary Socialist Republic in the year 1927 - one year after the Wild Fields revolution.

Lore:

Proclaimed in June of 1926, the URSR was established after the succesful Red Ukraine coup instigated by Soviet-funded communist parties in Kyiv. Following the relative stability and success of the slowly-industrializing USSR, support for a new socialist regime gradually built up among the Ukrainian proletariat during the Great Depression. The desire for a new, stable and Soviet-friendly government increased dramatically following the deadly Lithuanian-Ukrainian war which had seen the highly conservative "Third Hetmanate" intervene in the attempted annexation of Belarus. This nationalistic intervention instigated by the naive and militaristic Hetman of Ukraine was very unpopular among the Ukrainian and Cossack peasants who were drafted to fight in the war, and soon snowballed into mutinies and an eventual revolution in late 1926.

(The first proper map in the Peace Without Indemnities project! Trying out a new style, and had alot of fun making this one. I also doodled and animated this short, terribly-paced video which provides a little bit of context.)
