Is your camera a free tracker camera?

'cus I dunno how to set my camera to controled objects unless I fix them at an angle right behind them.

Also be awesome if I know how to make objects have 180° range of movement with analogue stick.

Dunno how helpful this would be since it's been a while since I've looked at the old DarkBasic code, nor do I have DarkBasic on me right now, but here goes anyways.

DarkBasic Pro has a command called "SET CAMERA TO FOLLOW", where the syntax is:

SET CAMERA TO FOLLOW X, Y, Z, Angle, Distance, Height, Smooth, Collision

Kinda depends on what you're trying to make here, but in 2.5D, the Angle would be the rails the characters are on.

in full 3D, you should keep another variable for the camera's angle, say #camya (camera y angle). By pressing L/R you increase/decrease this #camya. Then when you call SET CAMERA TO FOLLOW, use the angle of the character + #camya to be able to make it spin freely.

As for figuring out the angle you're tilting the analogue stick, you need JOYSTICK X, JOYSTICK Y, and ATANFULL:

#joyAngle = ATANFULL(JOYSTICK X(), JOYSTICK Y())

So it be something like
SET CAMERA TO FOLLOW 0, 100, -100, #camya, Distance, Height, Smooth, Collision

?

I think, I tried Set Camera to Follow before but I must have done something wrong for it to not work.

If you want I can send you a note of the program I made so far. It's all practice with 2 objects than anything developed.

I wish there was a DarkBASIC Pro club on devART.

Minon In reply to MysticM [2012-06-20 14:23:55 +0000 UTC]

somewhat. Last I checked dA wasn't quite the place for programmers.

Also I meant camya# and not #camya. Though it's fine to use an integer here instead since it's the tracking can smooth it out on its own. (just in case, you are aware of the different data types, right?)

To make it track your object, use the position of the object for the X, Y, and Z parameters. So for a a sphere of radius 1 created as object number 1, inside the main loop you'd use something like:

SET CAMERA TO FOLLOW object position x(1), object position y(1), object position z(1), camya, 10, 3, 10, 0

*Follos your instructions*
*Actually works*

OMG!!!

THANK YOU!!!

OMG I can't believe it! I been copying and trying complex codes and this is awesome!

You're quite welcome!

There is a lot of complex code behind that one command, but thankfully TGC was generous enough to do it for us.

I been stuck trying to set the camera for days. I still have a bit mroe to go but this command really saves the time.

Unfortunately the fairy helpers aren't in any of our demos yet. Sorry about that.

Also, thanks for the watch, comments, and faves. Even though I haven't replied to the comments besides this one, I truly appreciate it.

Hey, could you help me? Whenever I start a new file on the demo, when I come back to play it after closing it, I still have three empty files! Do you know what the problem is?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Minon In reply to Danmeister2000 [2010-08-11 04:31:56 +0000 UTC]

I honestly don't know why it's doing that. All the copies I've got save just fine.

Although, I may be quitting wrong. All I'm doing is quitting whenever I'm in town. Is that how you do it?

That's okay. My gut says the 2010 demo will be here in a few days... Until then, I'm having a Kirby RP on fanfiction.net with rbotic enemies similar to you guys' Verdans, even having classes, an infant state, and using some KCCh abilities, i.e. The worker class had Drill and Mechanic classes. The masher and elite classes use the exact abilities as the Goro and Garde classes. I'd like it if you took a look at it, if you can't, that's okay. I'm Danmeister.

Speaking of exploring the entire Wooded Woods, I've noticed while exploring the WW hub, five other doorways, three in the giant trees, and two other green ones. I'm guessing we'll go through some of those doorways in the next demo.

I've noticed the Parasol Waddle Dee has a white coloring, but no such option is availible in the demo.

No, just pointing that out. Can't for the next one! I would like to explore the entire Wooded Woods in the next demo!

Awesome game, congratulations to all the team, now, it's time for a nooby question: how do you get past the goomers on the first stage? D:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Minon In reply to JPBAnimations [2010-06-27 01:36:44 +0000 UTC]

I'd recommend using Cutter for that.

If you could also raise Kirby's level a bit that'd help out by quite a bit as well.

JPBAnimations In reply to Minon [2010-06-27 16:55:20 +0000 UTC]

thanks, and good luck with the rest of the game, you guys did a great job so far.

SwerveStar [2010-06-25 19:08:00 +0000 UTC]

Hey, cool, Chillies.

Is there gonna be a way to tell apart enemies from allies? Are they just gonna be different colors, yar?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Minon In reply to SwerveStar [2010-06-26 03:15:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's mainly gonna rely on having colors, though there are quite a few of those: Red, Orange, Chocolate, Yellow, Citrus, Green, Blue, Grape, Shadow, and White.

We may do accessories if it won't be too terribly difficult to work in.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Danmeister2000 In reply to Minon [2010-07-30 03:06:42 +0000 UTC]

Man I'm bugging you today! In the demo, only Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green were available. I'm guessing that's intentional. I also like how some of the canon helpers' colors are like those in the actual games. As Peppy would say: "Good job! Keep up the good work!"

This is truly inspirational work, Minon. I'm left impressed.

Alack, alack, my poor CPU tries so hard to run it. It's slow on my machine, but the easy listening music goes well with that.

Have you tried lowering the refresh rate?

megason In reply to Minon [2009-08-03 20:02:58 +0000 UTC]

Yes. Playing at 800x600 with 1:2 refresh rate really helped out.

I'd like to talk about it with you a little more. This is the first released demo in a long while that I was able to run successfully.

It says that when I try to start the game.

a Rar archive needs software like winrar to extract files from it, similar to a Zip.

Download WinRar. You technically have to pay for it, but they have a free trial you can use.
