I had no idea how to categorize this. It's a photograph with only minor digital manipulation (I fiddled with the contrast and added the text, since my magnetic poetry set didn't include the right words
), but it was created as an illustration for a poetry chapbook I'm patching together for Monsieur Violinist. It's sort of a still life on its own, I suppose, but that wasn't its intended purpose.The text is a lyric from Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence."

I'm pretty sure that when the unofficial creator of the universe made the violin he fully intended for it to photographed in black and white. I'm totally loving this picture.

Aren't they? All curves and polished wood and potential. I still look forward to the day when I find one that's cheap and worn enough to justify smashing for the sake of art. I'm going to make such a mess.
