Well, they had to spend some nice and relaxing time after the nerve-wreaking events
um, and I guess Legolas' arm wasn't broken after all, maybe he just strained it. Or this happens when that cast is already off

Oh that was most probably a period. THey both had to heal from their own wounds. I mean, losing their wife/mother is something so incredibly sad... It influenced the father-son relationship of course...

Yes, it must have been a very sad period... and I agree, maybe it was necessary, it helped them let go at least some of their pain and start healing... And after that outburst of feelings they probably grew closer <3
