fullview for best detailsblack & white version
about to give my wrist a good long break for the day after this piece - even if these *are* mostly lines I redid them so many times my hand cramped c':
ANYWAY it was for a good cause! this piece, an ode to Bird & Rook's very complicated relationship, is chock full of symbolism for them. long story short Rook was her friend before her sociopathic, possessive, & extremely powerful mother ripped his soul out and stuffed it into the body of a black stag (hence the antlers), "killing" him, basically, and damaging what remained of his soul deeply in the process. in another strange twist of fate after the black stag that was Rook went to find Bird to try and kill her in a mad rampage, he instead became her animal Bonded - a soul Bond between oneself and an animal companion - and couldn't, to his dismay, kill her.
I thought the red string of fate symbolism very fitting for them, except with a twist of course - is it fate or is it her mother? ('Ma' signed in red thread...) the scissors are done in a butterfly design as butterflies are important symbols for Bird, and the scissor is positioned both over the red thread and a lock of her hair. Bird's mother forbade her from cutting her hair (tied in again to her crazy possessiveness) but the positioning suggests that perhaps when the day comes where Bird truly cuts away all traces of her mother's influence on her, she can cut the soul Bond between her and Rook, too...
