That is an interesting point; how do they use all these handled devices if they lack hands to begin with?
Well... unicorns can float things with telepathy and pegasi have prehensile wing abilities... Kind of makes you wonder about earth ponies though (unless those devices were built by unicorns and pegasi and earth ponies were just the odd-breed-out).

But then again it IS a fantasy. There are also spin-offs of real life cities and towns in the show whose names have been re-written to become a pun on horses in some manner or another.
Or you could be right and the show is an alternate version of Earth that went the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon route (humans go extinct, insert-animal-here becomes sentient, sentient animal rebuilds a society) although it wouldn't explain the magic though (unless you count the theory that all magical ponies in the show are secretly robots and magic just a form of space-time manipulation brought about by some exotic technology).
