Click for more pictures or to purchase!EDIT 11/24/13: #1 feature on EqD! Thanks ya'll (:
A little side project I've been working on! I've always liked the Design-A-Pony molds, and a couple months ago I got my hands on the 'Princess Luna' one, who sports a show-accurate mane of Cadence. I finally got some time to paint her, and after a few weeks I have this! She makes a perfect gift for the holiday season coming up =uwu= I think she came out pretty well considering she's my first custom toy.
Princess Cadence measures 6in tall and is painted with a combination of acrylic, metallic, and fabric paints. She is sealed with a thin coating of Mod Podge, making her smooth and have a dewy look to her. Since her base is solid plastic, she is very sturdy and can take a fall if it happens. She is for collectors only though, and is not meant to be a child's toy.
Enjoy! If this goes over well I might go grab up Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy and customize them too! (:

aah I suppose!! I tend to like the princesses with smaller irises, especially with Cadence since her sclera (the white stuff around the iris) are very big. It's just my preference ^^' if Cadence sells then I want to do Rainbow Dash, so I'll give her some bigger irises then uwu I usually do with mares.

Yeah, Princess eyes are hard- though I've never really done a Cadence custom before. I'm working on a Luna as I type this.

I just painted her actually! Which did take a while haha uwu the design-a-ponies are already made, and they look like this: www.strawberryreef.com/images/…
But yes, she is very big!! She towers over my other figures haha. thank you~

Oh, I see! Where do you buy the design-a-pony things? I tried Googling them but didn't find much. They seem really fun, though. Was the painting hard? I'm really bad at getting perfect lines, so it must've taken some practice!

I bought it at Target a few months ago! I don't know if they still sell them, but Toys-R-Us does, as does Hasbro's site (: Just google 'design a pony princess luna' (or alternatively rainbow dash or fluttershy, as those are available too)
Painting actually was pretty difficult in some areas, specifically getting in between her mane and her face. Getting in between her wings, as well as between her wings and head, was also very hard. Tiny details were also very time-consuming (the eyes, cutie marks, lining, etc).
This is my first time painting a figure, but I've been using my fine motor skills when it comes to art for some time, so I was able to keep my hand fairly steady uwu Since you say you're bad with getting perfect lines, you may want to practice painting on paper first.

I'll make sure to look for them! They seem fun.
Yeah, it must've been hard to wedge the paintbrush into all of the tiny cracks. I can imagine the details being time-consuming as well.
Since this was your first time, did you get paint just for this project? I guess drawing skills would come in handy for something like this. We've been doing a big painting project in art, so I'm getting a lot of practice out of that. You did very well!

I had a lot of paint from past cosplay endeavors. I only ended up needing to purchase two shades of blue as well as pink and metallic gold, and I also got a darker purple just in case I needed it (which I did since it was easier to work with). It's why I mixed fabric paint in with the other paints, since I just...had them on hand haha!
Also big tip for getting in the cracks: buy the smallest paintbrush you can get. The one I got from Joanns is really tiny and worked well for doing this. Also, get a small brush, but with fibers that are long, so they can get in nicely as well. So like, two small brushes, but one with short bristles and one with longer ones? If that makes sense haha

It's good that you didn't have to buy extra stuff for this, and I'm sure the new colors can be used for later projects. If you didn't have fabric paint would you have used normal acrylic stuff? Is fabric paint "better" because it's more sticky?
If I decide to paint a model, I'll keep your advice in mind! Thank you so much!

i would have totally used normal acrylic. hell, the fabric paint that i had was always mixed with acrylic, therefore it didn't really change the consistency too much so i didn't have to worry about that. definitely don't use it on its own though if you're wanting to paint your own figure; just stick with the acrylics. i used apple barrel brand acrylic paint; they're really cheap and easy to find in any hobby store!
also!! be sure to water down your paint a little and apply coats of paint. like apply a coat, let dry, and repeat. it helps with a smoother finish. also cover the whole figure on white first before you start painting. it's nice to have a blank surface to start with. i would have spray painted it, buuuut i live in a dorm so that wasn't really an option, so i just coated it with the white acrylic i had. spray painting is better though as it goes on smoother.

If I do get a figure, I can probably just borrow some paint from the school's art room. I don't think my teacher would mind too much. Thank you so much for the advice!

She looks amazing, or maybe that should be 'a-mane-zing'
Yeah, the fact that the manes are not accurate is a bit of a downer for me, and the fact that you cannot get an Applejack with a hat figurine neither! Oh the calamity!
In any case, Cadence looks note perfect ^_^.
