Been awhile since I wrote a story, so here’s a short story I came up with, starring the characters from “Regular Show!” Cover drawing is mine as well :]
Abbreviations:
’M’ - Mordecai
‘R’ - Rigby
‘MM’ - Muscle Man
‘B’ - Benson

Spring had arrived at the City Park - flowers were blooming out of their winter slumber, ducks had returned to the pond, and visitors had begun to gather around the paved walking trail to enjoy the warmer weather. Sun rays brightly shone down through the upstairs window of the groundskeepers’ shared lodging. Two young adults, Rigby the raccoon, and Mordecai the blue jay, were sleeping soundly in their cluttered bedroom. After a long night of video games and sugary snacks (against the wishes of their strict boss, Benson,) they were prepared for a weekend of relaxation and “bro times.” Rigby, curled up on his trampoline “bed,” was loudly snoring and mumbling in his sleep. Unknowingly, he rolled over and fell off the tiny trampoline, landing painfully on a Lego brick (“conveniently” placed on the floor below.) “AHHHHHHGHGHGHHHH!” He woke with a start, screaming and frantically pulling the Lego piece out of his fur. “WHAT THE HECK MAN?!!” A familiar voice distracted him from his screaming fit- in his chaotic frenzy, he had startled Mordecai awake. “You’ve gotta be kidding me… *yawn* …what happened to you, dude?” Rigby held up the toy brick. “THIS happened! DANG IT,, Muscle Man and his lame-o pranks!” Mordecai glanced at the Lego and snickered: “PFFF- HAHAH WHAT?! Dude… THIS is what caused all that chaos? Aww man-“
“Oh good, you’re up.” The boys looked up and sighed annoyedly as Benson walked into the room. “The flowerbeds by the Park’s washroom need to be re-planted. There are bags of soil and seeds out by the back door. Don’t mess up or you’re FIRED, got it?”
“Yeah, yeah… blah blah flowers, blah blah seeds, PFFFT- easy peasy.” Rigby sarcastically remarked and rolled his eyes.
“Awww man… but it’s supposed to rain today dude!” Mordecai reluctantly retorted.
Pops, (who had been listening into the conversation from the other room,) jovially replied, “Oh, but April showers bring May flowers! A jolly good show indeed!” Benson turned and headed back down the stairs. “Or in other words, April showers mean ‘Work or you’re FIRED!’ You’d better be finished by this evening or you can forget about that raise.”
Rigby flopped on the floor with a groan.
”Awww man… this sucks!”
“Get up dude, I’m not going to do all the work for you.” Mordecai tugged on Rigby’s Tail in annoyance.
”Hmph. Make me. I’m the king of procrastination! I won’t budge, no matter what!”
”Alright, bet.” Mordecai playfully punched Rigby in the shoulder, causing him to dramatically cry out in pain. “HEY, NO PUNCHIES!”
”Cmon dude, the sooner we finish this, the sooner we can get back and order a pizza.”
Rigby sighed and stood up, rubbing his shoulder. “Yeah yeah, alright. But it’s gotta have extra cheese!”
”YEAH-YUH! And soda too!” Mordecai chimed in.
”WOOOOOOOOAHHHH!” “Pizza NIGHTTT!” They both simultaneously cheered, and headed out into the yard to collect their gardening supplies.
”Hmmmm, looks like there’s some sunflowers, zinnias, and chris-santa-moms?…” Rigby questioned curiously.
”*Chrysanthemums* dude. Here, you dump the soil, I’ll plant the seeds.”
”Alright, BOSS.” Rigby replied sassily, muttering to himself while he grabbed a package of potting soil. He sneezed as a drop of water plopped onto his snout, staring up into the sky. Raindrops began to shower from the clouds above, wetting the bags of soil and turning them into watery mud. “UGHHHH… WHAT?! NO FAIR, why’d you give me this stupid job for, man? I won’t be able to lift those NOW!” Mordecai shrugged and sighed, “Fine dude. We’ll just switch jobs, it’s no big deal.” Placing the seed packets down, he grabbed two bags of wet soil. He unsuccessfully attempted to sling the muddy bags over his shoulder, causing a clump of soil to fall onto Rigby’s head. “GAH! What the what man?!”
”Ohhhh, HEH- sorry dude. I didn’t do it on purpose, I swear-“ He dropped the bags down and they tipped over onto the ground , causing a huge mud puddle to form on the park trail. “Aww man…”
The short-tempered raccoon grumbled, “Look what you did, stupid! we’re going to be out here allll day, and it’s YOUR FAULT!”
(M) ”MY fault? You’re the one who wanted to switch jobs!”
(R) “Let’s see how YOU like it!” Rigby tackled Mordecai, causing him to slip and fall into the puddle.
(M) “Oh, you’re on, little dude!” Mordecai pryed the tiny raccoon off his body and pinned him onto the muddy ground, giving him a noogie on the forehead. Rigby pushed his muddy paws into Mordecai’s face, smudging his white feathers with dirt.
(R) ”Mordecai? More like MUD-DE-CAI!”
(M) “Dude, that doesn’t even make sense-“
(B) “WHAT is going on HERE?!” Benson angrily stomped over to the two, clipboard in hand. “There’s more mud on you two then there is on the flowerbed, where it SHOULD BE! What happened?!”
(M & R) “Uhhhhhh….”
(M) “He started it.”
(R) “HEY!-“
(B) “You know what?…I don’t want to hear it. As long as the seeds get into the ground, I don’t care HOW you do it. JUST- *sigh* FINISH THE JOB. And wash that gunk off. You’re NOT coming in the house that way, just look at yourselves.”
Mordecai and Rigby stood up, looking at their reflections in the puddle below.
(M) “Aww man, dude, look at your mud hat!”
(R) “NOT FUNN-“ Rigby glanced up at the comical clump of dirt on his head. “PFFF- alright! Heh- It is KINDA funny… I guess I’m the MUD KING!” He proclaimed jokingly.
(M) “Yeah-yuhh!” Mordecai cheered.
(R) “What are we going to do now though? All the soil got wasted.” Rigby questioned, staring at the humongous muddy puddle of spilled potting soil.
(M) “Don’t worry about it dude, we’ll just plant the seeds on the ground for now, and then when they sprout, we can transplant them into the flower bed. Problem solved.” Mordecai picked up the seed packets and handed some to Rigby.
(R) “Heyyy, that’s actually an awesome idea! Good thinking man!” Rigby happily exclaimed. “I guess we’ll be having pizza night after all!”
(M & R) “🎵We solved the problem! Oh YEAH, we solved the problem! Just in timeee to have pizza with the dudes!🎵 WOOOOOOOOAHHH!”(MM) “Hey there LADIES, I heard you singing that cringey song of yours and decided I’d come check it out! Sweet mud puddle bros, you should totally sign up for the next mud wrestling match against my girl Starla!”
(M & R) “NO!”
(MM) “Alright, suit yourselves. You’re still getting that pizza tonight though, right? I call dibs on the meat-lovers supreme!”
(M & R) “YEAH-YUHHH!”
The three headed back into the house to prepare for another wild night of pizza and video games.
(However, they had forgotten ONE thing. To wash the mud off before they walked upstairs, as Benson instructed.)
The next morning:
(B) “Mornin- WHAT THE HECK?! MORDECAI, RIGBY, WHY ARE THERE MUDDY PRINTS ALL OVER THE CARPET?! COME CLEAN THIS UP, RIGHT NOW, OR YOU’RE FIREDD!”
