I had almost forgot that scene from the book, it's a shame that it didn't make it to the movie. But on the other hand I can understand why they removed it.

Yes, I think they made it into Gandalf's replica "At the dawn of the fourth day look to the east", so it didn't get totally lost, but it got a bit different meaning.
