This comic was created for the Tolkien Mailing Competition.The task: make a comics strip: one story in three pictures. The scene has to be one mentioned in The Hobbit but not described in detail by Tolkien (e.g. we know there was a huge rainfall and everybody was angry but their actual conversations have not been recorded). There should be at least three dwarves and one butterfly in the comics.
The sentence from the book I used: "Their clothes were mended as well as their bruises, their tempers and their hopes."(in Rivendell)
(The "tempers" part is only implied - Elrond certainly made sure that Estel will not hear more of such words from Thorin & comp.)
When Thorin's company stayed in Rivendell in 2941, Estel (Aragorn) was 10 years old and fostered by Elrond. The woman in the 1st picture is Gilraen (yes, she's mending Thorin's pants). The dwarves dragging Thorin in the 2nd frame are Fili and Kili. All of their designs are according to the book, not movie.
The coloring and shading is very sloppy, you see, I'm in the middle of NaNoWriMo here, no time for a better drawing...

Haha! That's great! I love that you show little Estel interacting with the dwarves. I had been hoping they would show that in the movie, but they didn't, and then they threw in that crap at the end about Legolas going to find "Strider the ranger" and that really bugged me. He was only supposed to be ten years old at that point! So anyway, sorry to rant, and this comic is really funny and appreciated.

I know, I was willing to overlook PJ making up things, but as soon as he starts twisting Tolkien's facts, it really ruins the impression for me.

Hihi This just came to my mind after watching the last Hobbit film.
(If you still did not see it, don't read the next lines)
When at the end of the film Thranduil says to Legolas something like: "Go to the North and search for the son of Arathorn. He is a great man". And I just imagined when LegolasΒ finds the 10-year-old boy like "what?".

I saw it already, and my reaction was similar, like "wtf, Estel is 10 years old and doesn't know anything about "Strider" or Arathorn yet, he doesn't even know his true name..." I almost said that aloud in the cinema
