Description
One photodiode P-N costs about $5$5 x 2000 x 2 eyes of the fly = $20 000
Killing one fly, we destroy biological device worth $ 20 000.
Don't kill flies... (?)

you're absolutly correct sir
85% of a fly's vision is derived from their sense of taste. perhaps a dampen on the 20k?

You are right.
And it is quite common in nature :] For example in our ears we can find 3 semicircular canal and evolutionists say that it is because of sensing three dimensions :]

5 x 2000 = 10,000 x 2 = 20,000. The author's math is correct.

I rather wanted to present a simple fly by different perspective... but of course I agree... no mercy for biting insects ;]
But there is great diversity... some of Diptera can bite. But some can only lick the food from the surface :]

Flies are pretty cool, aren't they? I'm not going to lie, they do annoy the heck out of me sometimes, but as someone who's into nature and biology and such, I really do think that they're very interesting if you look at them as a rather important part of the natural world. Excellent photo.

But you are right.
In our daily life, the fly is just an annoing creature. Probably the same for me as for you :]
But I like to look at things from the different angle. Sometimes very simple things turn out to be very complicated mechanisms with very complicated lifecycles.
Thank you for kind comment.

That's deep, man. Wonder how we could use flies...? There's gotta be some use we can think of. Maybe tiny cameras to use 'em like spies? Nah, there's better uses... Heh heh.
Amazing shot, the eyes are hypnotic. It looked so perfect I thought it was a painting or some sort of CG stuff. Impressive, and I usually am not a huge fan of photography either... 'grats on the DD, by the way. Well deserved.

Thank you very much for great comment.
Insects are exploited by people in many ways. There is a modern branch of science, which studies the miracles of evolution and uses it in modern technology.
Some antiterrorists e.g. try to breed trained bees, which are able to find drugs or explosives/mines.
Another example are ventilating systems in large building - scientists noticed that termites build their homes in special way - there is a great circulation of air and some parts are hotter than others and vice versa. Everything is controlled.
Scientists showed it to engineers and now it is used in many large shops, buildings, skyscrapers and so on.
Once again, thank you for kind komment ant fav.

Interesting... I had heard about the bees, like they were using them to search for stuff in airports or something. (That really puts me at ease, you know, being trapped in an airport with hyper-intelligent bees )
Any way, it is amazing how much we can learn from them, eh? Whoda thought termites would have the next breakthrough in the architecture of buildings...? I guess they are natural builders, with their hills and burrows and such...
And again, lovely work, a very impressive shot.
