Description
One photodiode P-N costs about $5$5 x 2000 x 2 eyes of the fly = $20 000
Killing one fly, we destroy biological device worth $ 20 000.
Don't kill flies... (?)

Thank you :]
I know one guy who make much better pictures than mine and what he uses is reversed, cheap, old Russian lens and not expensive digital camera (not even SLR)
So if one wants to begin an adventure with macrophotography, there are at least 3 or 4 ways of making this adventure real.

I'm sure that to the fly it's eyes are as priceless as our eyes are to us. Should we value their/our eyes and life in $...
Lovely image.

Amazing... I'm always captivated by shots like these. I wonder: "How the HELL did they make that shot?!"
But, very nice work... I believe the DD is much deserved
Kudos to you.

Everething what is needed to do a picture like this one is high magnification which can be done in at least 4 ways (reversed lenses, additional magnifying glasses and so on).
Thank you for kind comment :]

I'm using Nikon d70s + Tamron 90.
But there are more ways to get similar magnification such as reversed lenses, Raynox filters and so on :]

Hi
Yes, small eyes are ocelli (for sensing the presence of light but not it's direction)

Nice macro work, you can even see the ocelli.
Looks like some specied of dragon- or damsel-fly. Can't quite tell any more than that fom this angle.

It was quite small. Undoubtedly - diptera.
Whole insect had about 5-8mm.
Thank you for kind comment. :]

Marvellous. I thought the eyes were made in some editingprogram, because they are so precise and none of them are 'broken'. they always seem to be, whenever I see one. Or perhaps they can suck 'em in like sharks. Hmm. Anyhow. Amazingly shot and caught.

Thank you very much for nice comment.
That's why I love compound eyes. When I'm looking at them I see some mathematical precision of evolution. Something really impressive for me.

I find it very impressive too. 4000 really tiny identical eyes is something impossible to try for youself. Might be possible in photoshop, but it doesn't matter. It is as impressive though, that nature is, doing something as precise as that, still capable of making all irises diverced from each other. And colours I admire a lot too.. Humm.. Nature is wonderful.

You must have used some seriously expensive equipment to get this fabulously good shot!

Miracidium In reply to Triton5 [2007-08-28 22:32:42 +0000 UTC]
For me... yes. But I know people, who make such pictures with not expensive cameras. But they are using their invention. For example they use reversed lenses which are very cheap and can be used with even very cheap cameras:]
Thank you for comment :]

Triton5 In reply to Miracidium [2007-08-29 13:09:58 +0000 UTC]
I've used the reverse lens technique too. But for your photo, you'd need to take the shot from a distance so as not to disturb the fly, and that means using a powerful zoom lens...correct?
π: 0 β©: 1
Miracidium In reply to Triton5 [2007-08-31 10:18:37 +0000 UTC]
Hi
It rather demands slowly movements :] Because I have regular macro lens with extension tubeset of rings. That means that the distance is very shot:]
