And nah I always paint with colour, I've heard colouring from grayscale can be a bit wonky at times. But I do use a saturation layer that's filled black to toggle between grayscale and check values
It's not the best or most accurate way, but it's helped me decide where places need better contrast and other things
Have recently started doing values studies though and just painting in grayscale. It's really relaxing xD
