Description Picture of what i have so far in my sketch book. Might update this with a digital version later c:
Utori are a closed species by me memomorii

How a music key is made:
Star Tea Plant leaves are boiled in water.
The music sheet or music box paper is rolled around a wind up key and tied with a thread.
The star tea is then poured in small amounts on the rolled up paper.
Over a short period of time, the tea and the music roll react causing the roll to crystallize.
This crystallized key then powers an utori, which will sing the song used to make the key.

Variants:
Music Box Utori: The basic utori, small and round. Requires a key to sing.
Percussion: Like the music box utori, it is mostly round but its back is flat like the surface of a drum. When tapped on the back, the utori will produce a drum like sound or any other repeatable sound it is taught to do.
Ambiance: A much larger utori that resembles an owl. It produces ambient sounds like birds chirping or the sound of rain. Requires a disc that is inserted into its back to play the sounds through its wings.

The Old Watchmaker
This elderly fellow specialized in making watches but made music boxes as a hobby since watches and music boxes share a similar structure. His wife had loved the small song birds that sang outside the window. Since she has passed on before him, he is quite lonely. So, he starts a little project to create a singing companion to keep him company. He wasn't very good at crafting much other than watches and music boxes, so his design was simple. Using a table tennis ball, he cuts it open and places a small music box inside, leaving the hand crank outside to wind up the music box. This was the first utori.
The watchmaker, not completely satisfied with the outcome, tries to improve the little music box bird. He has music sheets rolled up on his work desk to use as reference while creating the music boxes. One day, as the watchmaker was sitting down in his chair, his tea cup spilled a bit of tea on one of the rolls. Panicking, the old man rushed to get towels to dry off the sheet music. When he came back, he could hear the mechanical singing of the utori. He hadn't wound it up though. To his surprise, the sheet music, crystallized by the tea, was powering the utori! Experimenting with this new found magic, he goes on to perfect the utori. Creating crystallized keys used to wind up the music boxes, and inserting the key into the utori like he had with the music box. The utori glows to life, moving cautiously; its key slowly turning. It tests out its small wings, only to learn that it can't really fly; it could only aid in leaping short distances. The small ping pong ball bird stares at the old man curiously. The watchmaker, in a gentle voice, asked it to sing, and it did.

How the wings work
The wings turn on a screw and lift up with a hinge. Cannot fly but can jump using its wings.

How the feet work
The tiny cone-like feet have magnets on the base of the cone which attach to the metal base of the utori. ( the metal base is to keep the utori from rolling around too much ) The legs can be re positioned anywhere along the base.

"Feather" and tail:
Head feathers and tail can be any shape. Mismatching head feathers ( if more than one ) is rare. Head feathers can be positioned like a crown shape or down the back spine.
