Some concept art for my webcomic Arcturus Rising regarding the fae race. (Fae is an umbrella term in my story but I'm mainly referring to your standard fairies, pixies etc.)
The higher in nobility a Fae is the larger their spiraling tattoo is. Ranging from a small half arm sleeve or a full body work of art like you see here.
These tattoos directly account to a fairy's magic ability as it is literally made from flowing rivers of magic under the skin. As such Fae are the most magically gifted race, however they use it a bit differently and have different limitations. Since they are summoning energy from their own body rather than the celestial bodies around them. These celestial bodies do function as a sort of "charging" mechanism though.
I did make a nude version that maps out this entire tattoo which is much more impressive. I'm debating whether to post it or not but probably will.
