Description EPIC FAIL, this is. Ugh
I have a new love, and that would be Cillian Murphy. I watched Inception the other day, and re-discovered him. So I was spending my last few days watching a lot of CM movies. And by a lot, I mean a LOT. He is an amazing actor, no matter what the role is about, he is convincing. And damn if he isn't beautiful. Creepy all right, but beautiful.

Only one problem I have with this pic, and it's being: it doesn't even remotely resemble of Cillian Murphy. Not even in dark. I guess he is simply too pretty for my skills. Though you gotta believe it's not that bad compared to how it looked a few stages ago when he was like a love child of Cameron Diaz and Brad Pitt (not to mention when he looked like an old lady...).
I really can't figure out where it went wrong, my guessing in the very beginning with the proportion. I had to re-draw his nose at least two times, and it's still bending to one side, heck.

Anyways, it's him as Robert Fischer Jr. with the famous windmill. What a scene, my heart wrenched.
I so love this film

Oh, no, he really doesnt. Absolutely not *cries* This was my first real attempt to draw him and was a complete disaster. But thank you so much

How funnny! Cillian Murphy is my new love too!!! *big smile* I m going through the same as you do in the last few days: re-discover him, collecting all his films and watching them over and over again, falling completely in love with him and trying to draw his unique, almost un-drawable face. I had to practice very hard, had to draw dozens of sketches of him, never catching his wonderful features. But after all this "study" (it was more fun then work looking at pics of him for hours, studying every curve of his face XD) I now begin to figure out his face. And I came to a point where I am quite happy with the outcome. ^^
So you are very right when you say he's difficult to draw. He is indeed!
But you did a very good and impressiv job!! Especially on his unique cheekbones and lips. I also adore your kind of shading. And the way he looks is as sad and beautiful as it is in the film.
Go on with your Cillian pics! I would love to see them all.

(sorry if my English sounds odd.... its not my mother tounge...

It must be contagious Really, I thought I was weird and obsessed, never done anything like that before, and I thought I was far too old to do it, collecting films and stuff, but it's just fun. I really enjoyed all his films and performance, he is such a great actor! ANd yeah, drawing him is definitely not a work, even the process of choosing a reference pic: you have to skim through dozens of his pics, what is it if not pure pleasure?
The funny thing with his face is that he has so unique features that you would think it is easy to catch them and anyone would recognize him by your drawing but it is very wrong: you misplace one tiny line, just a curve, his eyes (like i did here), and boom, it doesnt look like him anymore, no matter you drew high cheekbones or full lips, no, it is still not him. Argh, he really drives me crazy with that face, it's an incredible challenge

Cold you get all his films? I still have one to go that I cannot get anywhere

Thanks for oyur comment, and now I'm off to your gallery

(we are almost neighbours I'm from Hungary, and your English is absolutely okay, btw)

I agree! I was thinking the same as you did, regarding his face: That guys features are unique and therefore easy to draw... No way! ^________^ Its really a challenge, as you said!

About his films: No, I dont have all... Especially the ones you cant get in Switzerland and Germany. But I was looking around a bit at ebay and I will definitely buy me Disco Pigs, On The Edge and this BBC-Series The Way We Live Now.
The only one which I couldnt find was Bitter Harvest!! Sadly, cause I really wanna watch it.

Which film do you miss?

Your from Hungary?? Oh, thats almost around the corner. ^______^

Lol, actually the only one I miss IS the Bitter harvest (or How Harry became a tree). It seems it is impossible to get it. It is on amazon, but with region code 1, which is not okay for Hungary, we are region 2 so out DVD player wouldnt play it And I sooo want to see it too

Yeah, we are pretty close. Actually, in Europe everyone is pretty close to each other

You're always so hard on yourself. I like your pic and I can clearly see the resemblance to Cillian Murphy. I am, as always, amazed by your drawing skills and I especially like your black and white pieces.
Watched "Inception" a couple of days ago. Nice movie. Loved the antigravity fighting scene in the hotel. Quite impressive. Loved the whole character of Arthur, though the slicked-back hair looked kind of stupid and the actor has the face of a teenager. But Arthur is a sharp dresser (his three-piece suits just rocked the whole movie) and that's why I liked him

oh ,really? thank you so much for saying this! I love drawing with pencil, even if the results dont quite show it.

Yeah, the antigravity scene was kind of kick ass, but I guess it can be said about the whole film actually. I like Arthur, too. You gotta like someone who looks so similar to poor Heath Ledger. I was even okay with the slicked-back hairstyle, it matched the suit

I'm just telling you the truth. If I could draw as well as you with pencils, I'd be a very happy girl. But I guess it's a good thing that you yourself are your hardest critic. Only makes you a better artist!

You're right. I wanted to tell my brother of this scene. He adores action movies, so I thought he would like to hear about that. I couldn't quite explain it, though. Maybe "So, those guys were in that dream, which was in that dream of the other fella driving a van and Arthur had just put the other ones to sleep, so they were in a whole other dream, you know... anyway, that dude from that dream level before that one in the hotel -by the way, they were in a hotel... no, not the guy in the van, he wasn't in the hotel! But the van guy, who had something to do with drugs I think was chased by the dream security people and they always tried to make him crash the van. That made the dreaming people inside the car bump into each other, which then again made the hotel in the dream tilt and spin and stuff. And then Arthur... no, he was the boy in the three-piece suit with the greasy hair. Yeah, he had to fight off more dream security people, while hopping from wall to ceiling, back to wall and so on. That looked pretty awesome. But then the van fell down from a bridge and as a result there wasn't any gravity in the hotel, so Arthur had to float through the hallways and kill security people along his way. Cool, isn't it?" wasn't the best way to explain it to him. He didn't understand a word of what I'd been trying to say and I was a little confused by my own explanation.

it really isnt the best promotion this film would get But I think this is the kind of film where you cannot really give a somewhat coherent explanation. Especially since the interpretation of certain scenes vary depending the viewers. I have seen somewhere a graphic design of the dream-in-the-dream structure - that is the minimum required to give a clearer picture to someone who didnt watch the film
