Description
Flame, in my opinion, is a rather difficult character to comprehend in terms of personality and actions.I say this, not because for deep meanings or anything, but the fact that I'm just not all that interested in him as a whole being. I guess you could say that it was probably due to the fact that (like Ember) he didn't get that much screen time and therefore we can only speculate as to what he's really like.
Some fans have portrayed him as being rather hot-tempered, egotistical, and rather crude.
Some have him as the boy-next-door with a laid back attitude.
Some have, for some odd reason, made him into Ember's number one fanboy or some wimp in general.
And then there are others that have taken a step out of these circles and made him into something rather intersting and enjoyable to watch/read about. As for me, I'm still kind of struggling to understand what I want out of this guy and how I should approach writing this character.
At first, I thought that Flame should be skilled in the art of glassmaking, but then I had the idea of him being a kultz and that didn't broad on too well, so that idea was scratched. Then I thought, why not wood craving instead, that could be cool. But the idea started to seem dull after a while so that idea was dropped. After countless mindboggling, brain wretching, hair pulling hours, I had finally found something that would suit him perfectly; Writing.
Well mostly just self-insert fan fiction of himself, but he does try todo more original works, but is rather self-conscious of showing them to anyone, so he keeps all of his written work to himself, only showing off parody poems to his friends and family while keeping his more personal stuff away in his desk drawer.
And there's my version of Flame, is a rather serious nutshell.
I think I'll try drawing one of my original characters next up (maybe the Dragonauts in concert or something) and leave you guys in suspense of what's Spyro's talent is.

That's really interesting. Someone gives him something more original in his character, even though we don't know about him almost anything. You have my respect.

Thanks, truth be told, it was pretty hard to find an even ground for Flame cuz, just like Ember, he didn't really have much personality in the original game as well as in the fandom itself.
Figuring out what his talent should be was pretty vital in order to work in a personality and quirks, but I'm pretty pleased with the result.

Well, to be honest, I consider him to one of Artisans, since he looks like Spyro, no wonder why most people thought they're brothers. That's sad developers couldn't add something else about his character or at least make him not look too like Spyro, but they spend time to do long and boring levels
I see we can still have some hope on Spyro fandom. I like the idea him being writer, couldn't even think of it. Yet again, good work on art and your idea
You even made me to think about Spyro's talent. I should totally think about it someday. Plus I started working on one art where I decided to put these two + Ember and Cynder in different dragon races, like, Spyro and Flame are totally Artisans, Cynder is one of Beast Makers and Ember, probably, is Peace Keeper or Magic Crafter. Still thinking.

Yeah, mainly because he has little to no personality and I wanted to make him, like most of my characters, to be unique and something that a person can relate to.

Always a good path to take, the more relatable a charcter is, the more people like it ^^

One of the downfalls of AHT. Give us more kid dragons, then don't develop them. At all. Just make them Spyro reskins...
Flame never lets anyone read his stories... he just doesn't know if he could take that kind of rejection.

True, on the plus side though, fans could do whatever they want with them.

Yeah, but then comes the whole issue of when someone official says something and destroys half the fanon.
Not that they'd do anything official with Flame and Ember...

True, true, but then again most fans either butcher the characters whole personality or just change them to the point where they're not even themselves anymore.

But how's that any different from what Vivendi's been doing...?

Mischef In reply to TimeTravelingEchidna [2011-06-23 22:29:21 +0000 UTC]
Well the thing about Vivendi is that they tried to keep some of their original personaity in tact while also trying to show a bit more of themselves, imo.

I dunno, I didn't really see that in the games they've had in their control. After EtD failed epically, they did everything but a canon reset in AHT, and then when that still didn't go over well, they gave us ANB.

A dragon that can write...now that's interesting! I have noticed what people do to his personality, it's like he's the male version of Ember.
I like this version that you did and he seems so shy about most things. I dig it~

Thanks, I'm still kind of toying around with him a bit so I'm still not at the point where I can confidently say that's his whole personality.

Spyro's secret talent is dress-making! Or contortionism!
I agree that Flame is difficult to make a personality for. At least with Ember we see a little something to give us a hint.

I've figured it out. Spyro's talent is acting and all of the games from the first to Shadow Legacy didn't actually happen. He was just performing for everyone else. Hell yes xD
