One of the things I was told multiple times growing up, by folks who meant well, was that I had "weird, different, almond-shaped" eyes. That the "ideal" eye for a girl like me was doe-eyed; round. Like a doll's. If it wasn't my eyes, it was my face. Or shape. Or chin. Or legs. Or hair. Or anything folks could nitpick. I struggled with this for quite some time; so many aspects of myself I found to be 'less than ideal'.It took me a long time to realize that uniqueness isn't something to overcome-- it is a blessing in itself to be cherished. That appeasing the masses won't make you any happier at the end of the day. That there are people out there who genuinely, truly love you for YOU, not an altered version of you. I am so very thankful for that.
