Description
little drops of oil make rainbows on wet concreteand i don’t know how beautiful you find that,
but sometimes you gotta learn that
the littlest things are the prettiest,
like the shape of your fingernails and the crinkles
you get at the corner of your eyes when you laugh and
when you grow old and i know i said “grow old”
like it’s a temporary thing, but that’s because it is.
you can think it’s forever but it’s really
a split second because you don’t matter, not when
the universe is still growing and speeding through a nothingness
we can’t even fathom, not when color doesn’t exist in space
but nebulas still explode in shades of gold and green,
not when there are stars who die
before their light ever touches our faces. you don’t matter,
not to anyone but the people who have fallen in love
with the way you walk and the way you breathe
and the way you keep doing both.
i don’t care that the universe is spinning and growing
and constantly changing and i don’t care
for our idea of time and life, this paradox of
knowing something for so long that we start to believe
it can last forever. i don’t care about how tiny and
insignificant we all are. i believe in moles boasting about how
they’ve made mountains. i believe in boys kissing their mothers
and boys kissing boys and loving them
and themselves and little kids watching rain drops race down
their windows and i believe in worlds ending
on tuesdays in the middle of family dinner and i believe
in picking up the rubble on wednesday morning and doing it
all again. i believe in listening to shitty music on the way
to work and writing poems in our heads about
every sunset we see on our way home. i believe in
going home, even if that’s a house or a trailer or a country or a person,
even if you stop along the way to get dinner
or admire the scenery. i believe in the fleetingness of life,
and the idea of worlds being small and private and
special because someone, somewhere believes
that oil drops on wet concrete are the most beautiful
thing they have ever seen. and i believe that even
if all we have on this planet is a split second,
i want to spend every moment with you.

This is so beautiful. You were able to capture my feelings so well it, it shocked me how accurate it was; I'm still recovering from a serious case of the feels. Thank you for this beautiful poem with a message. It made my day week.
