the little guy was running around the sidewalk at the cleveland zoo. he's all fierce in my dads hand

There he is! Looks like the stag beetles in Ohio are very different from the ones in central Europe; smaller, more brownish and with smaller mandibles. Here is a male stag beetle I took when I visited Greece [link] . But all I have ever seen in Germany looked exactly like this one.
Cool, I did not know that! I always like learn new infos about animals.

wow thats a huge difference! its cool the way their mandibles are! : europe's point downward, US' outward. thats really interesting! maybe to scoop up their opponent? i love learning new infos on animals too! especially within really similar species

na this little guy is wild. ive seen them before out and about in NE ohio (males and females - they look extremely different). its been a while since i had seen one tho.

I love that type of beetle...sadly where I live there aren't many of these...there are other species but not that type...

Lucky you!I see a lot of beetle like the cetonia aurata(rose chafer),cerambyx cerdo(Great Capricorn Beetle)a lot of type of ladybug and one time I have see a may bug and an aromia moschata(musk beetle).They are very interesting too but I want to see a beetle like this sometime...

well if you try to take my dad - he will send armies of male stag beetles to rescue him

if you try to take the beetle - it will make my dad sads and he will cry. its so sad..

no, he just kept waving his face around. we didnt hold him for too long, so he didnt get too angry

ya he did, but we dont like to talk about that. dad got hurt pretty badly - and bringing it up makes him feel less manly
