Description Finally, finally finished this. It's been in the works for *months* and I couldn't get it right. "Artist's block" is when you stare at a WIP, know it's *wrong* but can't figure out why! Fortunately gave me some pointers and got me going again!
Thanks sweetie!
So here is Teyla Emmagen, woman of Two Worlds!
Drawn digitally in P'Shop CS3 from a Ref photo in the SGA Mag, the city was based on a screen cap and all the other background materials are based on my own photos.
Then I mangled the whole thing massively to produce this!

As far as the drawing and likeness, it's really good. The only thing I see that might add to it is more contrast--or rather, darker shading under the chin and maybe around the eyes. This tends to be a problem for me, as I either go too dark or too light or blended or too something, but I'm trying to be super-aware of things like contrast. The features themselves, I think, would pop out more with a little added color. I think that's why the eyes are so striking---there's some really dark color there. Though I know your other pieces tend to be IN the dark, and as this one is, well, lighter...but her skin would warm up in the daylight more with a bit of red/blue/purple in the shading, and the hair would have some red and orange too with the sun in it. (HA, watch me practice what I preach, eh? I struggle.) But really, it's so very Teyla, and now that I'm looking at it more, I'll add that I love how the jumpers are on the "Athosian" side with the trees, and the leaves are on the "Atlantis" side...

Thank you so much for the critique!
You've been very kind. Yes the shading was a major problem. With 's help I managed to improve over her originally very *flat* look. You're quite right, I do tend to go for high contrast pieces, don't I?
Yes it could do with more warmth in the shading. I shall see if I can fix it.
Thank you for spotting the jumpers and leaves thing, I thought it was a good way of showing how she is *between* the worlds.

Beautiful portrait. I really like the expression you've captured on her face - that far-away pensive look. I love the concept (and the title).

Her eyes are absolutely gorgeous. I love her expression. And the background is great--the leaves in the foreground really add to the movement.
