Shaggy could place the star on top of the tree with ease, he's certainly tall enough, but if Velma wants to do it, he'll gladly play the part of a step stool to help her.

Thanks, I'm glad it cheered you up! I'm pretty excited too, I'm going to be alone for most of it which kinda sucks but I've got the day all planned out so I'll still have lots of fun anyway. We put up our tree a few days ago and I'm going to get my pets lots of presents so we can play with the stuff on Christmas. And my giant swan pool toy is ready to go so I'm going to make the day awesome!

What a great and very warm picture! this is awesome and so suited for the season!Β and your description made me smile as well. although it is actually snowing in Tasmania at theΒ moment! (according to the news) I live in Sydney so we're just been getting a lot of rain. Although it kind of makes me wonder what the Scooby Gang would think of an Aussie Christmas- (might have to write that one day). All in all I love this picture it just shines with happiness and warmth.

I'm waaaaaay out in the desert so there's nothing but hot hot sun for days out here and I don't think its ever been less then 40 degrees on Christmas. Yay for pools and air cons. I have no idea how they would react to a summer Christmas but I'd love to see a winter one. Do people still bring pavlova if its winter? if not then I'm so there because that stuff is all kinds of gross. And snow! I'd love to see snow! and no flies!Β

I learned to stay out of the way when Mom was doing her tree. Β Yes, her tree. Β Pop let her pick it out and he used to cut it down back in the early seventies. Β After we moved South to Georgia, he went to either the hardware store or the grocery store and got one at her insistence. Β Christmas was her time and she started a day or two before Thanksgiving and celebrated through the first week, sometimes into the second week of January. Β Mom played her Christmas albums while working around the house, baking and making all sorts of stuff. Β Her writing was sort of put off and to the side during this period and the family was always hanging out, either like Pop and I between job shifts, or when the kids needed their grandmama which was when my Big Sister was dealing with her ex-husband or her current husband. Β While it was often a stressed time for the family, we did manage most of the time to put things aside and try to be a family. Β Though my Big Sister and her family were always late on Christmas unless Mom insisted that they stay over. Β There was a rumor by the kids that Mom had Pop pay my Big Sister enough money to take time off from work, get presents for the kids, and even chipped in for gas to make it over. Β Personally, I never said anything ... in the end, that made Mom happy which kept the holiday nice, fun, and often civil. Β

My Mum would like to have a perfect tree but her grandma was a tree perfectionist and she hated it, so she lets us help decorate and tries to be more relaxed about it. There isn't much in the way of plants out here and the only trees we have are gum trees, so the christmas tree is 100% plastic. We have a bit of a zoo so once its up it becomes a game to see which critter breaks it first, ferrets were last year and the year before it was the cat, this year the parrots been eyeing it, but so have the ferrets and cat so we will see who gets to it first.
Normally Christmas is pretty chill but this year my cousin has decided we are family again so its not looking good. My cousin is a lying narcissist and no one can stand her except for my grandma so in order to keep my sanity I'll be skipping family christmas this year. I see most of them 5 times a week anyway and the important ones that I don't see are staying at our house in the lead up to it so I think its no big deal. So far my family has been ok with the idea, but I have a feeling I'm not going to get away with it. It might end up being a big thing but honestly not having to see her will be the best Christmas present ever. So if I have to I will be fighting for it. I wish I could stand her enough to put it aside and be civil but I think about her annnnnd...... nope, cant do it.
How do you do Chistmas now? Do you still have to see your sister?

Mm ... if we had stuff like that going on in my family, I never knew about it.Β Uncle Vincent and Aunt Sara were the cool ones in the family, always doing their own thing much of the time, but they always sent the neatest of presents, always something unexpected.Β My mother's brother often sent what they could as did the rest of the family, like the grandparents, but I never really minded since I just was happy to get whatever was given.Β Most of my stuff was art supplies or clothing, though Mom and Pop often got me things that they thought I would love ... and I always did.Β Pop worked at SEARS for his regular job, though he ran thirteen rental properties, while Mom wrote her books ... sorry if I have mentioned this before.Β But, we were pretty well off.Β My Big Sister always had to work hard to get what she wanted, but with her problems with drinking and pot use, it's never been easy.Β Β Over the years, it's gotten worse, much of it I never really knew, at least until the last ten years or so.Β Since Mom and Pop passed, it's gotten much, much worse.
Still, I remember Christmas for most of those years as a special time, thanks to Mom's hard work, seriously backed by Pop's own brand of Keeping On.Β We had my Mom's parents down the street and Uncle Charlie and his wife a bit further down the way, and Uncle Buck and his collection of wives ... somewhere.Β Uncle Buck was a great uncle, brother to my Uncle Charlie and quite the legend, but he was good to us kids.Β Still, we managed to put all of our baggage aside and make Christmas special.
What do I do now?Β Mostly work.Β I have told my Big Sister that I cannot deal with what she does to herself.Β She drinks and smokes pot in tandem which means the effects are even stronger than separate and she is just out of her mind when she is like this.Β So, until last year, she used to whine and complain about no one wants to come out and see her.Β Last year, I think the kids (probably her oldest boy) told her that no one will until she gets her head on straight.Β I told my oldest nephew that it's going to be a while before I trust even that.Β Also I want the older kids to verify that she's going to be straight and sober before I even think of spending that kind of money to come out and see her.
I regret that it's like this, but it might be for the best.
