Well, I had a niece to sit and watch with at the time.

Just ran across an image of Red while looking for anything colorful to stir me to draw something. That silly face, nice bright colors, the fond memories did it.

Yes he did. He had five children. Two of them, Brian and John have also worked as puppeteers in the past. Brian created the very first muppet penguin and helped to create the workings that allowed the muppets to ride bikes in The Muppet Sow, season 3. Brian's last big on screen production was the tv series "FarScape" which he produced. Last mention I see of him performing was off-Broadway in an adult muppet production called "Stuffed and Unstrung", which he co-wrote, produced, and performed in. I don't remember hearing about that anywhere before though.

Brian and Lisa Henson, fought for years after Jim's death in 1990, (as yes, he hadn't planned to die yet, and hadn't left a will), finally won a suit back in 2003 to reclaim ownership of their father's company. All the children now oversee the company in one way or another.

Have they stood out like Jim? Maybe not, but, he was one of a kind and an innovative leader in the field.

Yeah, by 'heir' I meant someone whose work in puppetry is of equal or similar impact, not in the traditional sense of 'inheritor'. In retrospect I can see that phrasing was unclear. Sorry about that.

That's true. And Brian has stated that as a kid, he came to nearly hate the original muppets as he was teased so much in school. "Do Kermit's voice!", etc. It had to be hard to live in his dad's very large shadow and explains part of the reason why he didn't create his own characters more.

So yeah, creatively, with the absence of Jim, and partner Frank Oz, we may indeed never see the same sort of magic in the muppet world again.
