Description I can't believe my three most recent arts are related to the zodiac signs. Well.

This was actually an art trade/challenge thing I did with a friend: We did each other's zodiac signs using a set colour palette that I later went away from lol. You can find hers here and here's what mine looked like before I changed the colours!

That is a very interesting face. I've never seen some one use a nose shape like this with otherwise quite feminine features.
But oddly enough it works here and makes for a very unique looking character. Really cool stuff!

Thank you People have pointed out that I tend to combine feminine faces with interesting noses, I guess it's just something I like to do. Thank you for the comment!

After looking at some of the pictures you do seem to have some odd fascination with noses. Nothing wrong with that though.
A nose is a very important element in defining a person's face so one should pay attention to it. I mean...it's smack dab in the middle after all!

Yeah, that's how I feel I think Nothing like some big old noses to rock things around a little.

Hiya! here!

Well, if you made three signs, it means you need to do only nine more! Do Libra next! It's my sun sign!
Serious talk now: a series of paintings is a very daunting task, but if you ever want do do something to challenge yourself, you have a great theme right there: portraits of the zodiac signs. And it came out unintentionally! You'd have to pay attention to cohesiveness and make sure that everything is in place, and it's huge but I think you can do it! It's great for building a portfolio, for prints and for gathering attention and leveling up as an artist in general.

I love your choice of colors, it's so dramatic and intense. You clearly know how to paint. And their face is so striking and unusual and eerily beautiful. Very nice!

I have some tiny little nitpicks that could help your portrait stand out a lot more, though:
First one and more important, you could bring even more highlight to the Cancer symbol. I'd love to see it bolder, and in a more important place on the subject's body. The first place I thought it would look cool is right on their throat, above their collarbone. It would be more of a focal point and - if i'm not mistaken, it would fall right on a rule of thirds spot, harmonizing your composition.
Another thing I'd like to see is more emphasis is on the little crab on their shoulder. It is a nifty detail that helps explain the painting, but loses itself in dull colors. It would help lots more for the crab to pop out - maybe making it a little more brighter would do the trick.
Also, and please keep in mind that this is just me thinking on a coherent zodiac series, it would be just so cool to see something on their head that echoes with the other two zodiac drawings! Maybe a detailed, intricate crab legs/pinchers circlet or tiara, golden like the other two drawings. It would be very striking and interesting.

What else could I tell you..... I really like your style, it's very distinctive! I hope to see more and more of your stuff!

Thank you for the attention! <3

Oh wow, what a comment! it's honestly a bit scary whenever you get comments like this in your inbox, but reading this was very reassuring and I can only thank you for your lovely words!

Yup, it really is a special kind of task! So far it's been mostly fun as I've started with the signs I know, but once I get further I'll have to do a lot more research! Still, I can't wait until I have the whole set

I've heard some thoughts on the sign and all seem to agree it should be a bit more visible. The reason I placed it on the chest is that I'm trying to put the signs on the corresponding body part: on the neck for Taurus, face for Aries and chest for Cancer. Since I'm doing portraits it's more or less becoming a problem as the bodypart are moving more and more south, though, so I'll gave to rethink that in the end as well!

And lastly you're absolutely right about the crab; it's one of the things that tend to get lost during the final colour corrections. Thank you for pointing it out!

Thank you for the lovely, very constructive comment! I'll try and see if I can't return the favour sometime. Thank you again and I hope you'll have a lovely day

ahahaha! sorry i startled you for a moment. i tend to ramble a bit when i'm giving a critique... it's a thing i usually do

and that's the spirit! do try to research and make a little challenge each time you do a new piece of the set, and i think you'll have a wonderful series of images! i know something about astrology, but i reckon i don't know very much.... i'm excited to see what you'll pull off next!

ah, i kinda understand a little your reason for sticking the symbol on their chest, then! it makes sense! it looks like it's related to chakra or something? i've never read about that, but i think it makes sense. and the fact that the symbols are actually moving downwards will surely pose a challenge.

the main tip i can give you, and one i said before, is that maybe you should strive to put the symbols on key points of the Rule of Thirds (or Golden Rule); it'll help with visibility. Here is a Wikipedia article about the aspect and here's one especifically about painting. I don't know which program do you use, but the crop feature of Photoshop has this feature embedded to it.

yeah, the crab was such a nice detail and it ended up so washed out! but sometimes we just get tired of working on a piece and try to move on. i don't know how your workflow goes, but never forget to get some breaks and watch the piece from very far away! like, get that zoom to 10% or 20% and distance yourself from the monitor. ah, throwing your saturation and contrast to zero helps a lot as well! it's good to see your piece thoroughtly from several different points of view, so that you'll have a better general overview.

i am very glad i could be of help! i want to see every artist striving for their best!

Oh wow! I absolutely adore the style! I love her features. I love the way the nose is crooked, I love the way the hair overlaps her eyes, the bags underneath her eyes, her full almost black lips, her very straight hair and the little water droplets. It all looks amazing. She has so much character.
The colours are very interesting. So is the almost ghost like crab in her hair. The rendering is great.
There is not much constructive I can say about this piece other than maybe she could use a little more highlight on her hair and perhaps you could make the zodiac sign a bigger lightsource. I feel like the last should have more effect on it's surroundings, like orange highlights on the hair and on her chin.

Oh my god thank you so much for the kind words, it's so nice to hear
I really agree about the hair, I experimented with more highlights but chickened out in the end, and I can't believe I didn't think of making the sign a secondary light source it would have been awesome, but I didn't even think about it. Thank you so much for the comment!

I love your use of translucent colours and the glowing logo. What stands out for me is how big that nose is - and that's in a good way! Lots people these days (myself probably included) dislike drawing big noses perhaps because today's beauty standard dictates that smaller noses are more aesthetically pleasing but you are not afraid for it to stick it out there and let it grab my attention Fantastic work!

Haha wow, thanks! I really do take that as a compliment, I love big noses! I think I had a habit of doing them too small once, so over time they've just grown haha. Thank you for the comment!

Ohh another one!!!! The colours look magnificent and she looks like she's just risen up from the ocean ..  Really loving the glow of her eyes and the blue and warm shades of her skin. I looove her lips, they are so full and that colour is everything *____*

The wet strands of hair on her face and the crab that's all tangled up in her hair are great details .. The glow of the mark makes it look like it's burning hot - a nice contrast to the blueish picture. Wonderful work as always!!!
