Description Study I did a couple months ago. I redid it not too long ago. I still don't really like it. It's just too simple, so I tried to make up for it with color. Meh.

When I have this problen I try simplifing the backround so I can concentrate on the figure. I also make sure that I am using different sized brushes all the way down to smallish ones. A variety of mark type will sometimes do the trick. After trying all this I do have to sometimes stop and admit that there is just not enough detail in my source material. So then I find an image that looks somewhat like my original and I fill in details from that photo. It is kind of fun, the result is a made up person that exisits only on my canvass. When I am working with female images I will combine them with my own face to try and avoid the flat, I painted this from a photo kind of look. If this painting where mine I would mix a thin glaze of that great blue grey you have around the figure and use it over the grey part of the backround. That would unify the backround and preseve some of that grey. Then I would go at the details with small brushe, I dont think color is your problem. I think it looks simple becuse your marks are all the same size. I'm sorry for writting a short novel, I hope this is of some help.

Yeah, I only had like 2 usable brushes when I did this thing. I should invest in some new brushes. Hehe.

Either that or put down a layer of paint and scratch back in to it with back ( handel) end of your brush kind of like a pencil ( can we say broke art student? )

The bottom is dark cuz of my shadow, I was taking the photo so I covered up the light.
