Description
you won't recognize me,you say. but i do
and you me.
in each other we see
who we were —
stumbling
cynicism,
awkward with desire
sharpened mean
and hidden poorly.
we turn from each other
afraid to speak
not because we've forgotten
but because
we can't.

no offense to any other commenters out there, but calling something 'thought-provoking' is a bit annoying. Like what? What thoughts were provoked? Say them out loud. Don't say it made you have thoughts. Say those thoughts. It's like saying 'I condemn this in the strongest possible terms.' No, you don't. You're not narrating your own actions, and your actual self is saying other things. Use those terms, whatever they are, don't say 'I use them.' Is this the correct place to critique other people's use of language, apart from the poetry at hand? Hey hi whutevs.

simple and well-expressed. more thought-provoking than it would seem on the surface. very much like it.
