Background:
Spectrum was born on a cold afternoon to Rainbow Dash and Soarin. He is the couple's third child and second son. Spectrum was a very fussy baby. He would cry a lot in the middle of the night, which meant there were many nights of no sleep from his parents. It didn't help that they had to tend to a toddler too. Spectrum was also very clingy as a young child. He did not like having his parents out from his sight, especially his mother. Rainbow Dash didn't seem to mind though. He was her baby, and she wanted to keep it like that for as long as she could.

Spectrum was always different from the other kids. He was quiet, and seemed to want to talk to anyone his own age. Everyone just assumed it shyness, and he would grow out of it once he got older. A group of kids his age would pick on him a lot, so he never wanted to try to befriend anyone, because he thought no one would like him. For the longest time, the pony he had who he could call a friend was his older sister's friend, Flame Heart. She treated him as a little brother, and would play with him when she saw that he was lonely. The two formed a close bond with each other. Even though his sister's friend was friends with him, his sister never really liked him when they were kids, and Spectrum never knew why.

As a kid, Spectrum would also spend a lot of time with Princess Twilight's daughter, Shadow Light. They were best friends as kids. However, as they got older, they became distant. Spectrum became distant with most of his friends. Not too distant though, just to the point where he felt it wasn't necessary to tell them everything. One pony he didn't become distant with was his sister. In fact, they became closer. He doesn't really know how him and Matilda became closer, but he's glad it happened.

Spectrum's parents began to notice that he wasn't flying around like normal fillies and colts when he was about 7. Rainbow Dash and Soarin just assumed that he was a late bloomer, but they took him to the doctors anyway. To their surprise, the doctor told them that Spectrum was most likely never going to be able to fly. Spectrum's self-esteem was never the best, but after hearing that he was probably never going to fly, it seemed to go down even more. He couldn't do the one thing that pegasi were meant to do. He felt like he had failed everyone who knew and loved him. The bullying didn't get much better for him either. He felt worthless.

To cheer him up, his mother and her friend, Applejack, decided to let him run along with them in the annual running of the leaves. Spectrum ended up winning the race, which everyone was surprised about. He also got his cutiemark that day. He was a bit happy for a while, but it was short lived. He soon realized that running fast was kind of a dumb and pointless talent to have. Well, it was to him anyway.

Spectrum's attitude began to change after that. He never found joy or excitement in things he used to enjoy anymore, he often became annoyed at things, he became tired all the time, he never really felt hungry anymore. He felt like nothing mattered anymore. He started to have thoughts of suicide. At first, they were just thoughts in the back of his mind, and he would quickly brush it off. However, as time passed, they became less of a thought and more of an consideration. At around age 11, he was diagnosed with depression and was prescribed anti-depressants. Spectrum doesn't like to talk about it. In fact, none of his friends know about it.

My next gen characters have really changed a lot since the last time I had made references for them. There's a new mane 6 for my next gen as well (if you been following along with the story then you probably know who they are). I needed to make some new references. Some of the characters got new designs, but it's nothing drastically different to the point where you can't recognize them.
