-------

nothing today. three preteens in an apartment is three too many.

anyway, today's 365 was inspired by this news article.
[warning: read no further if you dislike: feminists, strong opinions, cynicism, or wallotexts. you have been adequately advised against reading further.]
i definitely give kudos to the article and the author, but it certainly got me riled up.

the first stick in my side is this double standard about body shapes. you'd never say "oh, you're too fat. are you obese? go lose some weight, ok?" that's hurtful and nasty. but 'anorexic' and 'bullimic' are tossed around to slender gals so nonchalantly. they're ugly diseases, gaiz, but you use those words like they're compliments.
now, on the other, complete hypocrite hand, why do people keep spewing this crap about the fashion industry, being the scapegoat for eating disorders? i can't argue with the fact that healthier images would promote body peace. but, they are just trying to sell clothes. designers don't wake up in the morning and think, 'i'm going to destroy a pubescent girl's confidence today. yes, i think i'll do just that.'
i like to think that i'm neutral in this bullshit skinny vs. curvy war. i like healthy bodies, kthnx.

the second thing that commando feminist bonny would like to rage about is this subtle disdain that there still is towards females.
i remember a conversation with anna a while back that's stuck with me. why is it that most of the things marketed towards feminine buyers is merely for the purpose of making themselves more attractive to potential mates? hell, if we weren't treated like just eye candy, said eating disorders might be less common in the first place.

so maybe i'm a dumbfuck little feminist bitch who doesn't know anything about anything, but these things do make me genuinely angry.

i know. i read this quote and it was like, "Imagine how much more women would get done in this world if they weren't constantly trying to fix themselves."

for real.

ugh.

i mean it's just a body. do whatever you want with it. be fat. be skinny. get plastic surgery. i don't effing care! i mean it's not my problem... -_- and people should get over the whole "models destroy girls self esteem" thing

as long as the plastic surgery isn't fake boobs for your pinup gal tat. yesithasbeendone. bbarrrf.

by that logic, all the skeletal orphans in third world countries destroy people's self esteem, too.

You are completely right about it all.
What it all boils down to healthy vs. unhealthy
not skinny vs. fat people don't understand that
you can be really thin and healthy, you can be big or curvy and healthy
some people

and themodeling industry didn't do anything
people just take what they see and twist it in their minds

definitely good article, which prompts
randomconfession:
for those of *ahemUSahem* not entirely happy with our excess weight, it is just so easy to superimpose a happygolucky mindset onto naturally slender girls. we easily choose to shut out the logical realization that THEY too may be envious and furious in the same ways. then to hear someone put eloquently into words this sort of neglected frustration [and that they WANT curves] is both horribly ironic and wonderfully liberating. it shoves in your face the facts of what 'luckyskinnygirls' have to deal with, and curbs the urge to be a terrible hypocrite.

[ahem. or maybe thats just meh. ]

This picture has a really strong message, and its true we're stuck in a bit of a trap of human nature.

However the fact that fashion companies have picked skinny as the body ideal for models is counter intuitive, a full hourglass figure is instinctually more attractive for males. Its a sign of health and fertility.
