Description
I don't even know if that's technically a word, but FINALLY I finished this painting! This had to be the most labor-intensive art piece I've done to date. There's a reason I don't usually do digital aside from that fact that I'm in a deep romantic relationship with copic markers, and it's that the ability to add and subtract line and value infinitely bring out the worst of my art detail perfectionist side. There's still details on this pic I want to spruce up that I'm trying to keep myself from. >_<''ĀIt was a long process with several hours spent in front of a computer screen while listening to the same song on repeat for a while for whatever reason, but I think seeing this through to the end was possibly worth it! ^v^
Anyway, let me know what you think!Ā

Ahh, thank you so very much! And great advice on pointing out the reflections on the weapon! I'll definitely go back sometime and touch up the tones on it to look more convincing.
Oh, and yeah, the patterning on the fabrics was something that was really hard to find the reference for. I actually eventually purchased the art book for the movie since it's one of my favorites, and it was only until reviewing the concpet art that I found the reference I needed for how the fabric pattern flowed. Thanks so much for everything, friend! This is really helpful!

Sheesh! This must have taken you ages. Fantastic work. There's an interesting quality of it in that it almost looks as if it was chiseled out of marble -- some elements are flat, while others pop out, giving it a unique look. Keep up the awesome art!

Ah, thank you so much! It definitely was a lot of hard work- I'm honestly surprised I was able to finish it. >v<'' Ooh, and I never thought about the chiseled marble thing, it definitely does have that etched look to it now that you mention it! Thank you so much!

This is stunningly good. I'm glad you didn't go for digital with this, as I think it would have lost a lot of the raw emotion. It's a piece that benefits hugely from not being CG smooth. I can't really think in detail at the moment, but I will try and come back to this later on and give you something more specific, as it definitely deserves a full critique.

Thank you! The picture was actually painted 100% on photoshop, but I definitely went about it with the same rough approach and style that I use for all of my traditional art. Pretty much all of my stuff is traditional media, so I think my preference for that type of look even comes though in my digital art when I do so. Thank you so much!

Ah, really? Thank you so much! The texturing part was the most time-consuming part for me, as I did it all manually rather than importing textures.

I can't even say how good this is! All the detail you put in as well as labor, it really shows! This is one of your best pieces and I can't begin to explain the measure of depth and beauty that this picture captured!

Ah, thank you so much, that really means a lot to me! I don't know about the being good at any media part, I definitely need to train harder in the fields of oil paint and pastels as well as colored pencil, but thank you so much! >v<Ā
Ah, and glad to see I'm not the only one that does that. For some reason, this picture's "repeat song" became the nico nico chorus version of Six Trillion Years and overnight story. Yay unfitting music! XD

No prob, it really helped! It was advice like how big to make the canvas, at what resolution, and what brushes and tools to use and what not to use. Things like don't use the blending brush or burn and dodge because they ruin your color- which all turned out to be tools that I was definitely overusing previously.

Well you obviously have skills that can run circles around mine both in digital and traditional art, so when I'm able to learn a tip like that from a major drawing master, I make sure to remember it! You definitely do a whole lot of right with your artwork! ^v^

Ah, well you'll be glad to know that any drawing skill you feel you are lacking in definitely aren't apparent to the observer. What are some of the things you want to work on more? I know that for me adding greater spatial depth to my pictures and getting better at drawing anatomy are both personal must-learns currently.

WalkingMelonsAAA In reply to MissPeridot [2014-08-25 05:53:25 +0000 UTC]
some effecting looking places or lighting and stuff, I know you complement me on foreshortening a lot but sometimes some angles and stuff I just can't get, or if it's a super dramatic angle or view or something where foreshortening is quite a challenge for me. or like perspective can be hard too, like with the new one that I posted of Ghirahim parody of the Labyrinth, I had a hard time with how he looked like he was sitting in the chair, it kinda looked like he was floating to me, and I'm still not copletely happy with it, so I have tourble with that a lot dang it lol
and feet, I have so much trouble with feet. and I know I draw Ghirahim a lot, but I have a lot of trouble with lips as well. lol there's some other stuff too but those are the bieggest things

MissPeridot In reply to WalkingMelonsAAA [2014-09-18 01:50:43 +0000 UTC]
Oh, really? That's interesting to hear that coming from you, because like you said, I always admired your ability to effectively convey spatial depth in your art. Ah, and yeah, getting poses to fit in perspective like that, especially ones where the character is sitting can be super tricky! I probably could give you some advice on drawing lips- I've started to get a bit better at that recently. I find it helps to map out that one small dip under the nose and above the upper lip first as a starting guideline sometime. Don't know if that makes any sense written out, though. X'D

Oh, and thank you! Yeah, it has definitely been one of those "detail genocide," drawings, possibly one of the most challenging ones I've done in that regard. It's looking much better now that the art piece is close to completion, but boy has this painting been murder to detail. >_<''
