Description
This is a compilation of pages for a small booklet i did as an assignment.We were to choose a theme and visually represent the elements and principles of design.
my theme was shells.page 1 and 2 are the front and back cover. the rest are pages in column order, the visual representation adjacent to its matching text.
it looks very cute printed x)

I always find it interesting how different people identify the elements and principles of design differently. For example I've never heard of that "space" one you mention, but do know of a few you didn't mention, such as "figure/ground", or "form" (among others).

My teacher for this particular subject also pointed that out to us while he was explaining our brief. he pretty much said the same thing, but the also that the information he was giving us was one my college had decided on as the most important principles

Makes sense to me. I learned near the start of my design course that it doesn't matter so much what you want, but rather that if you want to do well, cater toward the person (or people) evaluating what you do.

thats very true. our teachers are always telling us that its more important to have a decent portfolio than a certificate.
however im studying design, and its really important to keep principles and stuff in mind, its so techniccaaaaal
i think the self expression is more towards fine arts (which is also something i want to do x) )

This of course (while doing work for teachers, as opposed to for a folio or clients) leads to too much focus on the technical aspects, leaving what little self-expression this is required as barely a metaphorical footnote on our work.
Of course (due to this), what I love most is when I make something, but the teachers have no input to give which would improve the work, despite them having favorite Photoshop or Illustrator tools or graphic styles that they usually love shoehorning into every student's work they can. If I can go through a whole assignment without any input from the teachers (despite their efforts, as mentioned), I feel that I've succeeded.
