Description Tum ta da tuuuuum! I did it, Sensei!

This crack idea came about when I was walking home from school and listening to my mp3 player and suddenly "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan came on and it reminded me of something Kanji said. And then I thought "I have to draw this~!"

yes but the lyrics might sound out of hand , im just editing them right now and see if it goes with the beat and how Kanji expresses himself xP . i say your really good at it xD . is it photoshop your using?

MissTooni In reply to teh-art-cow [2009-03-26 01:35:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I use it for minor editing stuff on a lot of my other pictures, but this is the first time I've actually colored something with it before. ^^

lifeseekerxl In reply to ??? [2009-03-25 22:35:33 +0000 UTC]

The colors... I like the cell-shading look it's got going on here. It'll be cool to see it finished.

MissTooni In reply to lifeseekerxl [2009-03-25 22:47:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I'm using the art book as reference for the colors, but I'm having a lot of fun with this. Considering it's my first time coloring a picture completely on the computer, I'm pretty proud of it. You don't know how long it's taken me to get even this much done. ^^"

lifeseekerxl In reply to MissTooni [2009-03-25 23:13:16 +0000 UTC]

I'd assume a lot, more so if you're including the time it took to actually find your tablet. Are you straight coloring on a single layer or are you doing a multi-layered piece? (I'd assume the later and if so, I could offer some tips that might speed up the process a bit)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissTooni In reply to lifeseekerxl [2009-03-25 23:38:25 +0000 UTC]

No, it's multi-layered. His hair and eyes are a layer, his skin's a layer, his shirt's a layer, and his coat is a layer. It works out VERY nicely. ^^

Some tips? That would be stupendous (wow, haven't really used that word much. It's a good word, stupendous)

lifeseekerxl In reply to MissTooni [2009-03-25 23:59:18 +0000 UTC]

Cool, I'll either send some of my tips through e-mail or through a note in a bit.

MissTooni In reply to lifeseekerxl [2009-03-26 01:37:31 +0000 UTC]

Awright, thank you~!

Any tips for straight lines, incidentally?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lifeseekerxl In reply to MissTooni [2009-03-26 01:42:17 +0000 UTC]

Straight lines, huh. Really, the only way to get really, really straight lines is to use the pen tool and to stroke the path. But, if the pen tool isn't your friend, I would try just working large for long, flowing lines and really close in for details and the like, the only real way to get straight lines through drawing with a tablet is to be good at drawing lines to begin with.

I would suggest getting used to the pen tool it you're not already familiarized with it, it's done wonders for me; not to assume you don't, but, yeah.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissTooni In reply to lifeseekerxl [2009-03-26 01:47:06 +0000 UTC]

The pen tool is totally not my friend... I've messed around with it before, but it just feels really awkward to me. Making curves to make lines and stuff? Well, I can try to stroke the path with the pen, but the lines on the pole are all broken up, y'know? It'd be nice if I could get one continous line and then just erase the parts where the hands are (since the layer has to be on top of the hands so it can go over his shirt...)

Right now the pole just looks... disgustingly unstraight. I'll see if I can fix it, though...

Here's a link to a pen tutorial that helped me... [link]

Learning how to use it is crucial for smooth line arts, it's the difference between this... [link] and this [link]

Yeah but both of those look awesome to me...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lifeseekerxl In reply to MissTooni [2009-03-26 04:50:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm glad about that, but you notice the difference, yes? Really all it comes down to is what you want the piece to feel/look like; sketchy or fine, messy or clean and that whole bit.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissTooni In reply to lifeseekerxl [2009-03-26 04:54:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I understand. Still, I... ugh, I don't know if I can get used to the pen tool. Guess I'll try to practice some more.

Ohhhh! Lame puns are my specialty~! I've learned to become addicted to them since I started rp-ing as Teddie. V.V I made up a great one today while we were at the store!

My mom called us and said they were in the meat department - my bro and I were looking for a black beanie in the clothing department. So I says to my brother, I says "Let's go MEAT mom and dad in the MEAT department." And then he told me "Shut up, Chairman." (the chairman in Persona 3 has a penchant for bad puns like that, too...)

lifeseekerxl In reply to MissTooni [2009-03-26 07:57:09 +0000 UTC]

Sweet. If we can model whatever we want when I take that class, I might consider modelin' me up a Sonic the Hedgehog.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissTooni In reply to lifeseekerxl [2009-03-26 08:04:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! Go for it. You can model whatever you want. I actually thought we had to draw our own character, otherwise I woulda done something like Teddie or... some other cartoon character.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lifeseekerxl In reply to MissTooni [2009-03-26 08:11:25 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... You know, I think it'd be best to do an original character for the class and Sonic on my own time. I think it's more, I don't know, admirable(?) to do your own character instead of something already made; already made in the sense that the character already exists, unlike a character of your own creation.

lifeseekerxl In reply to MissTooni [2009-03-26 16:37:38 +0000 UTC]

Something I'd still like to see sometime.

I also figured it would be more fulfilling to make something that's yours, you know?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissTooni In reply to lifeseekerxl [2009-03-26 16:49:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm going to re-render it and post a composite on dA - I believe I already told you this, right?

I agree. I was telling some of my classmates that modeling a person made me hate Maya less. It's like a baby! XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lifeseekerxl In reply to MissTooni [2009-03-26 17:49:11 +0000 UTC]

That's not a bad analogy, it's okay to hate kids, then you have yours and everything changes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissTooni In reply to lifeseekerxl [2009-03-26 21:02:03 +0000 UTC]

Lol. but... I don't hate kids. I love kids, actually. I just hated Maya... so I guess it's not a very good analogy...

Well, only if you tell it with that following it. It would work on most people.
