woah!! these are amazing!! Must've taken a long time to get all of these! =O
I'm going to check the art store near my home as soon as the owner comes back from his "summer vacation". According to copicmarker.com, the store near my home has them but I don't think there's a wide range.
For skin tones (fair skin), which markers would you advise getting first? (I've been told that the color charts online aren't that accurate.)
And what exactly is a base color? Is it the lightest of the color type? Or is it the lightest color that is in for example, a character's hair?
I'm sorry for writing such a long comment >__<
But copic markers are gonna put a huge dent on my allowance and I don't want to buy the "wrong" colors.

Sorry sorry it has taken me so long to reply><
It has taken me about 5 years to build up to this many
Well you live in NYC right. I myself am in south east PA. there is a shop here that has all 322 colors. and this week there is a 20% coupon. I looks up in the city for copics once and found most shops have maybe 20-30 colors
for a fair skined person i would get the 000's and the 00's then E50, 51 and 53. that is the safest colors once you get good and are brave you can use blues and greens and such.
the base color is really any color you lay first. Some people like to add the lighest color first and add shading. But some people like to start with the dark of the shade first. its up to each person.
If you are ever in this area i would be more then happy to let you try my copics and take you to the shop here

>.< eeks Sorry, I took long to reply too.
Thankyou for the advice!
My best friend (after hearing me go off about how much I want copic markers) managed to get me 8 colors (3 skin tone-ish colors) and the rest are scattered?
I guess I'll start adding onto my copic marker collection from that on. They're really awesome to use!

which colors did you get?
Yes i tend to get asked which set to biy but i liked geting 4 or 5 when i needed them and it let me slowly build up the colors as i learned to use them.

MissTopaz In reply to dnangel64 [2009-07-12 16:54:40 +0000 UTC]
Well i would say all of them. but really it all depends on what kind of skin you plan on doing. darker skin, lighter skin? will you use purples and blues for shading. will you do bold or safe shading.

well my style of coloring is i like very smooth looks unless it's a harsh lighting and I like to do a variety of skin tones I just find that the hardest one to do is that porclin pale because It's either to yellow or orange or chalky.

I wish I had all those Copics! I don't even have any. I've been waiting to buy some, because I saw this really great deal for Copic markers on mangauniversity.com (only 279.99 dollars for a set of 72 Copic sketch), but I kind of wanted to buy them one at a time, because I don't have the 300 dollars to buy the set right now, but if I buy like 3-7 a week I'm not spending that much money at a time. I also want to buy the marker set on mangauniversity.com though because it's 150 dollars off what it would actually cost which will save me money. Sorry if all of that was kind of confusing, I'm not good at explaining things. I really wish they had the markers seperate so I could buy a few at a time and not just in a set.

No you make a good point/idea. that is what i did, i got a few each month. but also in the same way rather then getting a few each week or month store that money away and then build it up and get that good deal ^^
