I was reading a oneshot about Leela and the Robot Devil in ~redwalgrl 's Anthology of Interest fic: [link] and it struck me just how much I liked the symbolism of Fry's hands.

Loss. In making these deals with the devil, Leela and surprising the Robot Devil himself have both lost something. The Robot Devil will never again know the joy of making music fly from his fingertips and we know how he loves his music; he's sort of like the Phantom of the Opera (haha pic idea ??x] ). "Down once more to the dungeons of my black despair, down we plunge to the prison of my mind! Down we go to that pit of darkness deep as hell!" <- totally makes me think of him dragging Leela into Robot Hell 8P
Anyways, Leela lost Fry in a sense; remember that part of the ep where his cold robot hands freaked her out? Yeah. Even if Fry had succeeded in keeping the hands and "winning Leela's heart with the holophoner's art", she might never have gotten used to his new hands. In the pic(and the aforementioned fic), Fry's real hands are an everlasting reminder of him to Leela. In a way, they aren't Fry's hands because they lack his unique caring touch, but it doesn't change the way she feels.
Bottom line - Instead of improving things, the deals robbed them of what they held dear.

Siigh~ I dunno about you, but I find the whole idea dreadfully romantic X]

And my friend Cody was awesome and added: "well, i guess its sometimes u gotta make sacrifices for the ppl u love, or somethin like that " So the hands could also symbolize sacrifice. yay symbolism~ <3

A few notes on the pic:
- using two light sources was fun and new :}
- I know I fail at hands, forgive me >.<
- I tried to make the Robot Devil look regretful-ish - did that work?
and if anyone has critques on anything, I'd like to hear ^^

EDIT: Oh crud. After rewatching the ep, I realize her gloves and dress are completely the wrong colour. How I overlooked that, I don't know xD; Ah well..
