I think its ok to do it as long as the person doesn't become alcoholic, because then its a big problem.
I can imagine Chris becoming one in his later life. I mean after everything he's been through, loosing people he was responsible for and fighting war that never ends.
I think being a captain is not good for Chris, he is better as an agent, but his reason for becoming a team captain was to train the new generation of BSAA members to fight bioterrorism and viruses.
Chris is just naturally a very caring person and that's why he take all of this so hard emotionally.

They decided to do it specifically with Chris. His story is a story of sacrifice.
