Description Speaker's Corner, London, 26/8/90.

The man on the milkcrates is William. Most Sundays he would come to Speakers Corner and tell passers by how he "has the same soul as Jesus Christ". William readily admitted he had experienced a profound trip back in the hey-day of acid. Thereafter, this DIY messiah became obsessed by the colour purple. Frequently, I witnessed some appalling abuse hurled at this kind-hearted man, and such needless intolerance always sickened me. On this occaision, however, he found a "fan" in this somewhat befuddled elder gent who cried "hear hear" after each of William's unusual statements.

That's awsome... The image was already good, but the story made me smile out loud. "hear, hear"… absolutely beautiful. I've take shots of people doing just what William does, and yes, they do get abused for expressing their self publicly. This is my favorite of your work so far...

Super, the contrasting of the two seemingingly unconnectable characters in the photograph is woven in well with the accompanying story...

wonderful shot...
...love the contrast between the two
and the story behind this adds to the symbolic meaning contained within this image of frozen time...

*rambles perhaps, it is nearly five in the morning...however, this sincerely is a most beautiful shot*

nice contrast between the old stately man
and the aptly named 'DIY messiah' -
makes you wonder just what's going on
without reading the caption first.

cool picture and an interesting story behind it...

you seem to have truly captured a moment in time... the guy on the podium does have a sort of saintly look about him in that way you took the picture
